I have the General Land Office's land records for Alabama CD which I purchased from the Superintendent of Documents for $14. It is a bargain for sure. It has all of the original sales of land by the federal government to individuals for Alabama. At present I am focused on Blount Co. AL, and in particular Range 1E, Township 13S, which covers present day Allgood, AL, previously known as Chepultepec. That's is where my ancestors were living in the early-mid 1800s. One of the neat things about the records on the CD is that you can search for individuals by surname, or you can search by date, or by location. You can tag your selections, and you can export the data into your spreadsheet or database program so you can do some additional selecting, sorting, etc. I have printed out a list of all the original sales of land around Allgood as described above, and, assuming the purchasers lived where they bought the land, you can see from the data all the neighbors, who it seems also turned out to be kinfolk. If anyone has any early ancestors in AL who settled at Allgood, let me know, I may be able to tell you when they purchased the land (only if they were the original purchaser from the federal government) and who their neighbors were. I'm sure there will be only a few replies, because I recognize and I'm familiar with most of the surnames I'm seeing. In fact, since there aren't that many surnames, I'll list them: Cornelius Jones Hays Murphree Anderton Hallmark McGuire Morton Ingram Allgood Clowdus Baker Box Buson Blakeley Carnes Poe Crump Smith Waid Poe Tidwell Morris Harris Fitch Armstrong Daver Cowden Hanby Hendricks Woods Jones Lyon Hamaker White Blackburn Staton Johnson Derrick Watson Barnes Calvert Robertson McGuire Morgan 1858 is the date of the last sale of the land in this section, with 1823 shown as the earliest sale date.
