Cousins, If you are on more than one of my lists, you will get more than one copy of this post - just delete the duplicates. PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS ONE!! **************************************************************************** ********** First, I would like to strongly encourage you to become a member ($12/yr) or sponsor($24/yr) of RootsWeb, if you have not already done so. Rootsweb is a membership organization - your membership dues and contributions are what keeps it going. The address is RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative, P.O. Box 6798, Frazier Park, CA 93222-6798 and the URL for more info is http://www.rootsweb.com/ **************************************************************************** ********** There will be genealogy classes on the 'net - I am not familiar with them, but plan to be soon - I'm enrolling! The URLS and the mirror sites for these classes are: http://www.ideaschool.org/general/courses/gen110.htm (Beginning Genealogy Class) http://www.ideaschool.org/general/courses/gen201.htm (England Genealogy Class) http://www.ideaschool.org/general/courses/gen206.htm (African American Genealogy Class) http://www.ideaschool.org/general/courses/gen208.htm (Ireland Genealogy Class) MIRROR SITES: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wgandorr/classes/gen110.htm (Beginning) http://www.rootsweb.com/~wgandorr/classes/gen201.htm (England) http://www.rootsweb.com/~wgandorr/classes/gen206.htm (African American) http://www.rootsweb.com/~wgandorr/classes/gen208.htm (Ireland) **************************************************************************** ********** Many of you have asked about accessing the archived (old) posts. I will go through the steps of how to do this, using the Bozeman list as an example - you would substitute the name of the list you are wanting archived posts from. Realize that some lists, such as the ones I manage, are set so that only listmembers can retrieve archives for that list. 1) send a post to BOZEMAN-D-request@rootsweb.com with archive in the subject line and LS volume97 as the message. 2) you will get back a list that has several columns of numbers like this: -rw-rw---- 1 slist slist 10968 Jun 14 13:50 11 The only ones you need are the date - Jun 14 - and the last number, which in this case is 11. That means that the archive for June 14 for the Bozeman list is #11. 3) send a post to BOZEMAN-D-request@rootsweb.com with archive in the subject line and get volume97/11 as the message. **************************************************************************** ********** Those of you on Larry Stephens' regional lists at indiana.edu (our former list home with Maiser) will recognize the rest of this post - I have his permission to use it. GOOD SUBJECT LINES really help - those who read a lot of mail as well as you (because more people will read your mail). If you're responding to a message and the subject has changed, then change it on the message. ================== IF YOU NEED HELP AND I DON'T ANSWER, I - 1) didn't get the message; 2) answered and you didn't get the message; 3) haven't read it yet; 4) did something really stupid and accidentally deleted it. Please be patient and try again after 24 hours.
