    3. Hello List, I have been getting these posts for several days now that give me the message **OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail: ATToo2o3.eml, (ALBLOUNT-L)nail,eml**,or something similiar. I have ONLINE SCAN from McAfee so feel I am pretty safe but there seems to be a problem somewhere. 3. Hi Betty and everyone, I thought I'd reply to the entire list about Betty's question regarding "unsafe attachments" because others may find the information helpful, too. The problem Betty mentioned is probably related to the Klez virus. Although our discussions here on the list should be only about genealogy and history, I'll break my own rule this once and suggest that everyone take a moment and learn more about this virus. Here's a good link to information on Klez: http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,1282,52174,00.html The Klez virus scans an infected computer for email addresses, then uses those addresses to send out further copies of itself. When a server receives such a message using your (forged) address in the "reply-to" line it may then send a message to you saying that your email contained an unsafe attachment. You, of course, never sent the email in the first place; the Klez virus just used your email address to spead itself. This doesn't necessarily mean that you have the virus, but someone who has your address on their computer does. The virus targets people who use Microsoft Windows, so Windows users should make sure they keep their virus detection software up to date. If anyone has further questions about Klez, please contact me off-list at [email protected] That way, we can keep the list free for genealogy. :-) Glenda Savage ALBLOUNT List Admin Betty Riley wrote: >Hello List, >I have been getting these posts for several days now that give me the >message **OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your >mail: ATToo2o3.eml, (ALBLOUNT-L)nail,eml**,or something similiar. >I have ONLINE SCAN from McAfee so feel I am pretty safe but there seems to >be a problem somewhere. >Betty Riley >--------------------------------------------------------- >----- Original Message ----- >From: <[email protected]> >To: <[email protected]> >Sent: Tuesday, September 17, 2002 10:00 AM >Subject: ALBLOUNT-D Digest V02 #89 > > >
