Tammy, I looked in the 1840 census index and there is no David Smith (as the one you found in the 1850 census) but there are other Smith families. I found David and Susan's marriage in 1840 (possibly after the 1840 census was taken) I can look thur the 1860 census for the family. There is a Thomas A. Smith that married in the county in 1862. I am not sure that the 1860 census will do much to confirm or deny that the 1850 Thos age 9 is yours but I will be happy to collect the info for you if you want.
