    3. Submitted to a Jeffco Gen quarterly many years ago by Shirley Lacey Davis of Dora, Ala. The piece in it's entirity: Absalom S Duncan was born in Duncan City, Spartanburg, SC July 11, 1800; died Aug 11, 1872; buried in Blountsville City Cemetery, Blount County, Al. He married Maragret Trip Foster in October, 1823, and moved to Ga. where their fourteen children were born. They came to Trinity, Al. in 1856, then to Arkadelphia and to Blountsville in 1860. Margaret Trip Foster Duncan died on Dec 25, 1880. Their son John Henderson Duncan, father of Dr Henry Stallworth Duncan, was a school teacher in Walker Co. Al. in 1860. Their daughter Nancy Elizabeth Duncan married Elias Miller Robinson. They were parents of Dr Thomas Franklin Robinson and Dr E M Robinson. Dr Henderson Duncan performed the first trepaw brain surgery in north Alabama. He died on October 3, 1889. John H Duncan's son Joseph Johnston Duncan reportedly opened one of the first drug stores in Birmingham in 1886. The Duncan Drug Store. Of the Confederates listed on the history sheet copy: 1. Thomas F Duncan or T F Duncan was a doctor. He married Laveny McCoy, 1858 in Salem, Al. 2. Robert D Duncan married M Martha ____? lived in Walker Co. Al in 1860; issue: Absalom IV. 3. Wm S Duncan married Elner ____? and lived in Walker Co. Al 1860. 4. Absalom W Duncan b 1840 Ga. enlisted 1861; died of wounds received in Atlanta campaign; Aug 19, 1864. Believed to be buried in Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta. (W. Duncan, Co. K, Ga. 40th Reg is buried there). Absalom W was in Co. K, Ala. Reg. Davis Guards. Stiles Shelton Duncan, born Jan 28, 1849; died August 28, 1920, is buried in an unmarked grave in Fraternal City Cemetery. He married Martha E Shelton, Dec 4, 1878 in Blount County. Al. He was the youngest son of Absalom Duncan. Martha E Shelton born in 1850, was the daughter of Gilbert and Caryann Shelton Children of Stiles and Martha: 1. Alberta Louisa, 1879, Blount Co. Al. 2. Anne, 1882, md. Joe Edwards; d. in Texas. 3. Edward, 1884, ___ Texas. 4. Walter Richard, 1886 ___, Texas, 5. Norvell, 1888, ____ Texas. Stiles and Martha moved to Texas in 1880. Returned to Salem, Al. 1900. Martha died shortly afterwards. They family moved to Pratt City, Jefferson Co. in 1910. Stiles was killed by a train while at work at a mines near Pratt City. Walter Richard Duncan md Mattie Lee Coley Feb 1, 1908, issure: Jack Duncan, stillborn; Mary Magdalene Duncan Lacey; Margaret Ellen Duncan Stubbs. Mary M md Oscar Edward Lacey, June 10, 1931; Jefferson Co. Al. Issue: Shirley Annette Lacey Davis, b Sept 25, 1935; Gail Joyce Lacey McCown, b April 19, 1939, Ga. Walter Richard Duncan, son of Stiles and Martha Duncan, a coal mining engineer, was killed in an accident at Sayreton Mines, March 31, 1920, a few months before his father's death. Shirley Lacey Davis seeks ancestors, Richard M Lacey and Mahalia Dailey. Richard was the son of Joshua who was a son of General Edward Lacey, one of the heroes of King's Mountain, Revolutionary War.
