The death certificate of my great granddad, John Blackwood, who was born in Blount Co. in 1847, lists his place of birth as “Lunchford,” AL, though I’ve never been able to find any reference to such a place. Another old document suggests he was born in “Birmaham” (Birmingham?), but this is probably incorrect. If anyone who knows the old county place names well has any ideas, I would love to hear them. I believe that there were some Lundsfords (sp?) in Blount Co. in those days, and have wondered if “Lunchford” might actually refer to them in some way. Any and all thoughts appreciated.
