    3. We are pleased to announce that MAHALA LOWE, wife of JEREMIAH LOWE of Blount County, Alabama, was a SHOOK before marriage. This revelation was on the death certificate of her son Francis Marion Lowe. Mahala Shook married James McCauley in Blount County Tennessee in 1833. She was a pregnant widow, it seems in 1840. Her son Harrison McCauley was born in 1840 in the fall, Blount Co. Tn. Sometime around 1843 Mahala Shook McCauley married Jeremiah Lowe. They are first seen by us on the 1850 census of Gordon County, Georgia, then they came on to Blount County, Alabama and were on the 1860 census. We have further info on the Lowe family if anyone is researching and might be interested. Have heard from other researchers that they thought Mahala's maiden name might have been Harrison, since her first son had that name. Mahala and Jeremiah were seperated in 1870. He was alone, 70 years old, Wagon maker. He died 1872 Blount. Mahala lived with her daughter Philista and was with her in 1870 Blount, Listed as M H Lowe. Mahala died in 1884. Wanted to share this with other descendants of this couple. We are thrilled to have a new surname!. Happy Thanksgiving to all... Melba and Doug Lowe (Doug is gt gt grandson of Mahala Shook and Jeremiah Lowe. We are hoping to gain further insight into the Shook family beginning with an interesting site we found today: www.shookhistory.org
