    2. Melba, Here is one of my Civil War Obits. Robin can post this on his site with the others. Robert C. Johnston, Jr. 139 Eagle Creek Drive Wetumpka, AL 36092 USA [email protected] Obituary of Benton Beverly Cornelius, Co. K, 19th Alabama Inf. The Southern Democrat Oneonta, Blount Co., Alabama March 25, 1920 B. B. Cornelius Dead News has just reached here of the death of B. B. Cornelius which occurred at the home of his son-in-law, R. E. Hale at Mountainair, New Mexico, on March 11th. Uncle Benton, as we all called him, had been in declining health for some time. A few months ago he decided to make a visit to his daughter in New Mexico. The trip was a long one, too much for the old man in his condition, and while he regained some of his strength after he reached his destination he was never well again. Mr. Cornelius was 82 years of age and had been one of the leading citizens of the county. He was in the Confederate army and made a good soldier. He delighted in attending the reunions and missed very few of them. He was a loyal member of the M. E. church, South and was always found on the right side of all moral questions. His influence was for good and the county in which he lived has been made better by having him as a citizen. One by one these old men who wore the grey are passing out and in a few more years there will be none of them left to tell of the horrors of that great struggle between the States. The deceased is survived by three sons and one daughter.
