July 8, 1926 Southern Democrat OLD CONFEDERATE PASSES UNCLE HENRY WHITLEY died at his home on route 3, Oneonta last Thursday night. He had a stroke of paralysis several months ago and had been slowly growing weaker until the end came. Mr Whitley was 85 years of age and for many years had been a member of the M E church. He was a faithful soldier during the war between the states and was in a number of battles. He was a brave soldier and loved the cause of the Confederacy to the end. The deceased is survived by his wife, three sons, Allen Whitley of Birmingham; Solomon Whitley of route 1 Remlap; and Grady Whitley of route 3 Oneonta; Mrs. Lydia Agnew of Texas, Mrs. B H Horton of Birmingham and Miss Willie Whitley of route 3, Oneonta. The funeral services were held at Lebanon Church and were conducted by Revs. G W Elliot, W A Murphree, S S Owens and J B Miller.
