There is no date with this obit from the Southern Democrat: CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES Final Rites For Col AUSTIN M SOUTH Held Sunday Final rites for Col Austin M South. formerly a commander in Gen Forrest's brigade and a native of Blount County, will be conducted Sunday at 2 pm at the family residence, 1157 Eleventh Avenue, South with the Rev Arther J Moore pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating. Masonic services will be conducted at the grave in Elmwood Cemetery. Johns will have charge of burial. He is survived by his widow, three sons: H J South of Little Rock Ark; F L South of Erie Pa; and E E South of Birmingham; four daughters, Mrs O E Oswalt; Mrs D A Nabers; Mrs W H Pearson and Miss Lena South; several grandchildren and two brothers, Reuben South of Blountsville, Ala and Forrest South of Coal Valley Ala. Col South enlisted in the Confederate Army when 17 years of age and served through the four years without a wound. At the time of his death he was commander of Gen Pat Cleburne Camp United Confederate Veterans, and led the remnants of the veterans who belonged to that camp to the reunion at Tampa last April. He attended 28 or 37 reunions held by the veterans. He was a member of Alpha Lodge, A F and A M Salter Chapter and the Kamram Grotto and the First Methodist Church. Members of Gen Pat Cleburne Camp, Masons and United Daughters of the Confederacy will attend the funeral. Col South's death is the fourth among the membership of Gen Pat Cleburne Camp in the last month.
