The General Land Office online records are very interesting and informative concerning original purchasers of land in Alabama from 1820 onward. However, I'm interested in my ancestor's land purchases prior to that time, especially in the vicinity of Township 13S, Range 1E. This generally follows present day Highway 75 south from Oneonta to Inland, on both sides of the highway. The following were some of the purchasers: Blakely, John 07/26/1819 Section 14 Holmark, Wyatt 07/08/1819 31 Box, Stephen 07/06/1819 12 Also, the following purchased land in Township 12, Range 1E: Box, John 07/06/1819 28 Shelton, Taliaferro 07/06/1819 32 Hanby, Gabriel 07/13/1819 34 The above purchasers only acquired part of the land in the above sections, not the entire section.
