I am looking for more information on James Powell born 1759 and his ascendants. His father John Powell, Jr. born 1731 married Alice Brewer. John Powell, Sr. born 1705 in Chatham Co., NC or VA. He was married dto Mary Sarah Cromwell about 1730 in VA. I am looking for more of their children of these 2 couples. I have some information on Mary Sarah Cromwell and her ascendants back to 1477. After wondering and collecting info for over 25 years if James Powell, b. 1759, were any kin to me, I recently found out through DNA genealogy testing that he is indeed kin. My ancestor was James Powell b.@1787 NC, married to Mazdy Murphree in Pendleton Dist SC, went to Rhea Co TN in 1808, then to Blount Co in 1832. The two may have been cousins or James b. 1759 might have been an uncle to my James. About 2 years ago I also found through DNA that I am kin to a group of Powells who migrated to Gordon Co GA from Pendleton(they were there for sure in 1820). So this set of Powells have a common ancestor, probably back to NC/VA. Research has been focusing on those Powells in 1800 Pendleton and 1790 Chatham. Recent research has been looking at deeds in Chatham and Orange Counties NC and into VA. Particularly looking for any clues to a John Powell/Alice; so far no luck. I am not fully convinced they were James b. 1759 parents. Dickey L.
