Diane, Did you know that one can search the archives of the posts that are made to the list? Go to http://lists.rootsweb.com/ Go down the page to "USA" and click on "AL" Then under "Counties, Boroughs and Districts" click on the county which you want to search. At the very Bottom of the page, there is a paragraph about Archives. There are two links for two kinds of search pages for the Archives. Choosing one of these will open a search page. The "Browse" link is good if you know the month of the post. Otherwise, use the "search" link to search by year.
