The Walker County Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, August 22, 2002, 1 p.m. at the Carl Elliott Regional Library. The public is invited. Guest speaker will be Roger Starnes, Chief Appraiser for the Walker County Revenue Commission. Mr. Starnes, for the past five years, has been serving as a volunteer in the reenactment of the U.S. Army's 39th Infantry in the War of 1812 at the Horseshoe Bend National Park. One of his many interests is the history of Walker County and northern Alabama. He is particularly knowledgeable about the northeastern area of Walker County, Sipsey River, its tributaries and pioneer families/homesteads in that area.
