Aphiey K. Graves (that's what the marriage license says) married James N. Bicknell on July 30, 1854 in Blount County, AL. But apparently something happened to him...I have no idea what. She then married a James Brasher somewhere! I can't find a marriage license for that marriage. I have a copy of her Alexander Graves' account records that state Aphra K. Graves, his daughter, had been given a cow and calf and 1 bed and furniture (part of her inheritance). After his death (Alexander's), the probate records show that A.H. Bashor was residing in Cullman, AL (Oct. 1, 1886). A depostion taken after Alexander's death states that "Afrey Basher, widow of James Basher, a daughter of decedant, resides in Cullman County, Alabama". Aphra's known child are: Ann Brasher (abt. 1855 - ?) William Fate Brasher (June 22, 1858 - September 12, 1939) married Lebeth Goodwin & then Mary Jane Curry Benjamin Cicero Brasher (1862 - 1933) married Mary Pender in Cullman County, AL Mary J. Brasher (abt. 1868 - ?) married John F. Todd in Cullman County, AL Abbie Drusilla Brasher (abt. 1871 - 1942?) married William Lee & then David Franklin Kuykendall in Cullman County, AL Augusta Brasher (August 10, 1872 - April 5, 1904) married Franklin LeVast in Jefferson County, AL Rose Brasher (July 17, 1875 - November 26, 1965) married Mannon Goodwin & then Andrew J. Prestidge Julius Lenier/Lanier Brasher (April 22, 1876 - May 31, 1950) married Pearl Millican in Cullman County, AL Aphra is buried at Valley Springs Cemetery in Cullman County. Her headstone has "A.H. Brasher" on it. I am a descendant of her son, William Fate Brasher & Lebeth Goodwin. If anyone has any knowledge of what happened to James N. Bicknell or where Aphra married James Brasher, I would appreciate any leads. I have always found it interesting that both men had the same first name.
