Here goes another listing, although I have posted some in the past and had no information from my queries will try again, my 4gf Henry C Barton b-1776 in SC came to Blount Co. with his family between 1810 and 1820. His son Jeptha J (3gf) married Sarah Cozby in Jefferson Co in 1838and moved to Tippah Co Mississippi about 1850. I have no record of Henry's wife except on his Land transactions she was listed as Rebecca and (I think she may have been of indian lineage), Rebecca died many years before Henry and the only clue as to where both may be buried is a land sale made between Henry and Gilbert that stipulated not to be resold until the death of Henry. I have searched all cemeteries in Blount Co and have found nothing. I also know that in his later years he first lived with Margaret Rickles and later Gilbert Barton (according to the Blount Co.census). WHERE ARE ALL THE BARTONS BURIED? If any one can shed some light on this please email me, I am fron the texas Panhandle but now live in Center Point, Thanks Terry for prompting to try again!1
Henry Caldwell Barton received 40.08 acres in Blount Co. from a cash sale at the Land Office. His certificate was dated 9-10-1838. From the BLM website, relative to the 1820 Cash Sale Act-- Public land sales boomed. The Act of April 20, 1820, authorized land to be sold for a minimum of $1.25 per acre and tracts as small as 80 acres. Public lands initially offered for sale by District Land Offices were sold at pre-announced, scheduled public auction. If any land remained unsold, the parcels would be available for purchase at the minimum price on a first-come-first-served basis. This replaced the credit system. The President of the United States signed land patents, giving people title to the land. Hundreds, then thousands of Americans gave up their American nationality and chose to go under Mexican rule in order to get land in Texas for growing cotton. His land description was SE 1/4 of SW 1/4, Twp. 14S, Range 1 West, Section 27. On today's map, this appears to be in the Village Springs area, within the circle made by Red Valley Rd. & Cedar Bend Circle. If you will send me the land description of Gilbert's land, I'll see if I can map it off.
