No she was the daughter of James S Cozby and wife Elizabeth Moore of Jefferson Co.
Henry Caldwell Barton received 40.08 acres in Blount Co. from a cash sale at the Land Office. His certificate was dated 9-10-1838. From the BLM website, relative to the 1820 Cash Sale Act-- Public land sales boomed. The Act of April 20, 1820, authorized land to be sold for a minimum of $1.25 per acre and tracts as small as 80 acres. Public lands initially offered for sale by District Land Offices were sold at pre-announced, scheduled public auction. If any land remained unsold, the parcels would be available for purchase at the minimum price on a first-come-first-served basis. This replaced the credit system. The President of the United States signed land patents, giving people title to the land. Hundreds, then thousands of Americans gave up their American nationality and chose to go under Mexican rule in order to get land in Texas for growing cotton. His land description was SE 1/4 of SW 1/4, Twp. 14S, Range 1 West, Section 27. On today's map, this appears to be in the Village Springs area, within the circle made by Red Valley Rd. & Cedar Bend Circle. If you will send me the land description of Gilbert's land, I'll see if I can map it off. Here goes another listing, although I have posted some in the past and had no information from my queries will try again, my 4gf Henry C Barton b-1776 in SC came to Blount Co. with his family between 1810 and 1820. His son Jeptha J (3gf) married Sarah Cozby in Jefferson Co in 1838and moved to Tippah Co Mississippi about 1850. I have no record of Henry's wife except on his Land transactions she was listed as Rebecca and (I think she may have been of indian lineage), Rebecca died many years before Henry and the only clue as to where both may be buried is a land sale made between Henry and Gilbert that stipulated not to be resold until the death of Henry. I have searched all cemeteries in Blount Co and have found nothing. I also know that in his later years he first lived with Margaret Rickles and later Gilbert Barton (according to the Blount Co.census). WHERE ARE ALL THE BARTONS BURIED? If any one can shed some light on this please email me, I am fron the texas Panhandle but now live in Center Point, Thanks Terry for prompting to try again!1

Patti, Browns & St. John's Is that the Hendrix area? Have a John Harvell Mauldin md. Reta Brown 12-21-1908. Both buried Centre Cemetery (Hendrix) There is also a concentration of St. John's in Cullman. So they would have been in the portion of Blount that became Cullman in 1878. Hello everyone! I am a direct descendant of William SELF(abt. 1791 - August 3, 1846) & Rebecca WEAR (abt. 1793 - September 23, 1884), who settled & died near Blountsville, AL. William was the son of Isaac & Nancy Self. We have been looking for the burial place of William and Rebecca for several years. I am also a direct descendant of Alexander GRAVES and Druzilla SANDERS, who died in Blount County. Their daughter Aphra/Aphrey/Afria married a Brasher. This is one of my dead ends. I can't find any information on the man she married, James BRASHER. My mother's maiden name was CATO. There have been a few of them in Blount Count over the years and I connect to all of them. James Blackwood enlisted in Company D of the 12th Alabama Infantry at Talladega on 19 Apr 1864. His widow Sudie reported her husband died 30 May 1897 on her pension application which was witnessed by W.B. Clowdus, Robert Blackwood, and L.D. Brown. Only one or two pension applications are on file for Sudie and information is sparse. Blackwood's Confederate service record does not contain much more information than the above. Blount County pension records imply Sudie died about 1904. Blackwood has a Confederate monument in the Blackwood cemetery. He first married an Indian named Aytcha, who died in 1887; and second married Sudie Lee on 20 Jul 1890. You can find this information on the Compiled Confederate Service Records and Alabama Confederate Pension Applications. >Can anyone help me with information about my great grandfather James >Blackwood (2/27/1830-May 10, 1897). Hi all! I have been on the list for a while. My lines are the Murphrees, Bynums, Clowdus lines that all intermarried amongst myself. I am my own 7th cousin and I was very disturbed to find that my own mother was my 6th cousin once removed. We have some other relatives who are even closer related! I don't post much about these lines because I have the Bynum books, Vol 1 and 2. The ancestry is mostly done in there. My husband's line is through Doctor Graves who came to Blount County from North Carolina. He and his wife are buried in Graves Gap Cemetery along with every other member of this line. I haven't done much work on the Graves yet. I did glance through the book about the history of Blount County that is in the library and found some Graves in there, but I haven't done enough research on them to know how or if they are related. My husband's grandmother is a daughter of Silas Graves and Mary Etta Reed. Silas was a son of Clements Graves and Liatha Arrean "Renie" Whaley. Clements is the only child that I know of that belonged to Doctor and Ann ??? Graves. Again, I haven't researched them out yet. I got really heavy into the Kilgore/Blair/LeCroy families (who moved into the County Line/Trafford area) over the summer, so I guess the Graves families will be next summer. That is, of course, unless I run across some info that sparks my initiative again. School keeps me very busy, but I still read other people's posts....just in case they are related in some way. Thanks! I found no James Blackwood in the Alabama Archives online data base of civil war veterans; but ancestry.com has the following: Name: James Blackwood Company: D Unit: 12 Alabama Infantry. Rank - Induction: Private Rank - Discharge: Private Allegiance: Confederate Do you think this is him? I was able to order civil war records from NARA online for many of my family line. Applications for pension are available, also. I ordered on that was years of filings and letters that told me much of my ancestor's family info; even tho he died in the war. http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/ ancestry.com also has a pension claim # for a Celestine Blackwood. Does this sound right? Terry, while I've posted queries in the past concerning my Blount Co. ancestors, namely Blackburn, Blakley, Box, Ellis, Murphree, etc., right now I'm hung up down in Jefferson Co. and need some information from the books published by the WPA concerning stories collected by a Mrs. Duffee. The stories appeared in Sketches of Alabama. I'm also a descendant of a John Goyne and a Stripling Byars, both of whom died in Jefferson Co. AL in the late 1830s. I have the date in the Pauline Jones Gandrud books. But I need a copy of the story attributed to B. E. Grace concerning early settlers in Jefferson Co. named Goyne. I live in a small town in Texas, and I don't have access to the Sketches book or books. Charles Blakley Bosque Co.
