    3. I think a BIG factor in the migration south (Florida) and west was the general state of the economy in the south. Things were pretty tough even without the social factors splitting the communities. The Gadsden Times has lots of mentions of people moving and writing back and telling about families they live near. Many also returned from TX and other places as they found it wasn't an easy living there either. At least here, they had family. 3. I am updating and reposting. This family has been my brick wall for many years...... Louvenia "Lou" Emaline Pierce/Pearce Anderton Lafarlette b. May 31, 1837 GA died January 17, 1903 Pope/Conway Co AR. Married Jasper N. Anderton, Blount Co AL April 19, 1857. Married in his father's house (John Anderton) by Maxmillian Tidwell In 1860 census of Blount AL (no other Pierces) In 1870 census of Madison Co AL (Jasper Anderton is gone, as is the child Henry Clay Anderton seen in the 1860 census). What happened to them? Lou Pierce Anderton Lafarlette migrated to southern MO/ northern AR about 1872 1880 census Marion Co AR with 2nd husband James Albert Lafarlette, also lived in Baxter Co AR, Ozark Co MO Brief migration to Broken Arrow, OK Settled in Conway Co AR (Old Hickory) 1900 census Pope Co AR Buried in Old Hickory cemetery at the border of Pope and Conway Co AR I believe that her brother was: Jacob B. C. "Callahan" Pierce b. 1835 GA died after 1870 Married Taletha Lett 10 Aug 1854 in Calhoun Co AL, daughter of Ambrose Lett and Lois Crouch In 1860 census Cape Girardeau County MO Jacob CB PIERCE 25 GA Letha Jane 33 AL James A 5 AL Laura J 7/12 AL William BROOKS 34 AL This family returned to AL soon after this census and Jacob joined the Blount Co Hornets (CSA) Company B 29th AL Infantry J.B.C. Pierce enlisted 22 September 1861 in Blount Springs. Under arrest at regimental guardhouse at Pollard May-June 1863. Paroled at Talledega 17 May 1865. From Blount Co records describing assistance to families of soldiers in service to the CSA: (These records were on Robin Sterling's website, which (alas!) is no longer online) Pierce, Callahan B.; no mother; James A)., 7 years old; "Sarry" Jane, 3 years old (should be Laura Jane); has left nothing for his children but one dry cow; in Captain Dew's Company, Colonel Conley's Battalion, September 24, 1861; Beat No. 12; $30.00 It is ordered by the Commissioner's court that the following sums be paid to the following persons by the County Treasurer out of the funds appropriated by the County for provisions furnished the families of Absent volunteers previous to the act passed 11 November 1861; to Jasper ANDERTON for keeping two children of Mr. PIERCE who is in the services of the Confederate States; Beat No. 9; $20.00 (Jasper Anderton was the first husband of Louvenia Pierce Anderton Lafarlette) From Blount Co Probate records: The children of Jacob and Taletha Pierce, James Ambrose Pierce and Laura Jane Pierce, were indentured to Green B. FOUST Feb 11, 1862 in Blount County as farming apprentices until the ages of 21 and 18 respectively since their parents were "unable to provide for them". Judge John C. GILLISPIE. Jacob B.C. PIERCE married Elizabeth STRINGFELLOW in Madison Co AL 1867 and was in the 1870 census of Madison Co. There are no further records of Taletha Jane LETT PIERCE Green FOUST was killed in the war. I have found no further record of the indentured children James Ambrose and Laura Jane PIERCE. What happened to them? Jacob B.C. Pierce (possibly Jacob Callahan Pierce) enlisted 22 September 1861 in Blount Springs (Blount County Hornets). Under arrest at regimental guardhouse at Pollard May-June 1863. Paroled 17 May 1865. Along with him in the same regiment were Riley Anderton, Berry Anderton, John Anderton, and Reuben C. Anderton. Children of "Callahan Pierce" from Blount Co were being cared for by Jasper Anderton and Lou Pierce Anderton during the war, according to records. These children were named James A. and Sarry J. Jacob B.C. Pierce was born GA ~1835 and was listed in the 1870 census of Madison Co AL with his second? third? wife Elizabeth Stringfellow, who he married in 1867 in Madison Co. WIth them are the following children: Richmond Pearce 9 AL Elizabeth 6 AL Rhoda 3 AL Letha 11/12 AL This family disappears after this census, other than Jacob B.C. Pierce being named in a divorce suit. Thanks for any info! Pat

AL he was a patient for 14 yrs entered in 1901. He had brites disease (kidney- no Depends in those days or antibiotics etc) Although the records say his wife had him committed because he was crazy, however their is no mention of her name only that a judge in Hamilton, Marion Co. AL signed the papers. buried at Partlow State Hospital Cemetery Tuscaloosa, AL m.1 Parthenia Permelia Jones b. 1857/58 AL d. after 1889 possibly in childbirth MARRIAGE: Record of marriage of William M. AL census with her mother an H.N.Jones b. abt 1826 in AL no others listed Family story says that her father died when she was a baby possibly CW and she was raised by a Gamble family. Another story says her mother died in childbirth and her father gave her to relatives to raise. That her mother may have been a Gamble. There is a Parthenia Gamble listed in 1860 census with Henry Gamble family. She is not listed on the 1861 Confederate census as a child of his, so if his child she may have died young. Her nickname was PAL. At any rate she was born a JONES and some sort of cousin to William Jones. their children were Mack Gray Jones b. Aug 30, 1882 Walker Co. AL d. Bernard is living with cousin James A. (Albert) and Harriet (Sissy) Crutcher and Lee is living with a Tom Stepp no relation. My father Tommy Jones said they used to go visit Uncle Tite and Aunt Estelle Gamble Sapp, also Aunt Arie Gamble. I have photo's with my grandfather Uncle Gray and Claude Gamble. I also have an old photo of June Gamble. and a Mary Gamble as a small child and Thornton Baker. I see how these families tie together but I do not see my Parthinia nor my William within these ties. after Pal (Parthenia died) William Jones m. ? possibly a Caroline Harris and had at least 2 more children Robert Jones who resided in Northport, Tuscaloosa Co. in 1950's and a William Jones who resided in Marion Co. in 1950's (this son had children named Myrtle, Winiford, John and Henry maybe more) a photo taken in Berriville Ark has him with these children listed. One of my gr. uncles married a Marsh and they are well known for their strawberries. I have gone there for years for their good strawberries. All of Morgan county know them. Joe Marsh is one of them. I haven't been there in a long time now because I get strawberries year round in the grocery store but they are tasteless and not good like the ones grown here. There is a big family of Marshes that live at Moresville. Frances

    3. You know, something just popped in my head. Ron Stone and a couple of others have asked in the past why their families picked up and moved to Arkansas. There was a big migration in the 1867-1870 time frame but I've also seen references to families that returned. Looks like this may well have been a contributing factor in the migration. The Anderson line is prominent in my wife's ancestry, and we do have a lot of information .... but always seeking more. You can peek at http://www.hueytown.org/historical/Sheriffs_of_Jefferson_County_A.pdf To get more extensive information about "our" Anderson line. If there seems to be any link with your interests, would be delighted to share information. Carl, in Knoxville, Tennessee

My paternal grandfather Elias Monroe Thomas married Martha Jane [Thomas] Thomas. She was the daughter of William Maybry Thomas and Mary Ann [Rouse] Thomas. I have not yet been able to trace back far enough to see if and where those two Thomas lines converged. All four are buried at Peep Crack [Stewart's Chapel] between Warrior and Hayden. I would like to make contact with anyone who knows about or is working on the CALVERT family line. Primarily in Blount County, but it may well spill over into other adjoining counties. My uncle Andrew Thomas .... farmer between Warrior and Hayden .... married one of the "Calvert girls," i.e. my aunt Lou. To set an approximate time frame, my uncle Andrew died ca. 1945. Also, I was 80 this year, which again helps with the time frame. Two or three others of the Thomas line married "Calvert girls." Also there may be a Calvert link on my wife's side [Reese] of the family. I have a reasonably large amount of materials on the Thomas line, although not yet as well organized as I would wish. Also have a fairly large number of old family photos that I would be happy to share off list. Will look forward hopefully to making some preliminary contacts for these lines. Also, hope that at least another 9 folks send in queries to meet the "bribe" needs. Regards, Carl Thomas, in Knoxville, Tennessee
