    1. McMurry, Byars, Edwards
    2. Ryan Clarke
    3. I am researching the McMurry, Byars and Edwards families in Blount County. I have a lot of information on McMurry and Edwards but not much on Byars. I would like to contact anyone working on these lines. I have some information that a West family is also connected in some way to my McMurry's but I have not been able to find a connection. I would like to contact anyone researching West. There are some West's buried near my McMurry's in Fairview West Babtist Church Cemetery near Hanceville. My biggest research problem is identifying Thomas McMurry's (he was born ca 1785 somewhere in TN and died after 1860 in Blount Co.) wife's name and where in Tennessee he migrated from to Blount County. He came to Blount about 1820. Any help. contacts on these families will be appreciated. Beth McMurry Clarke rclarke@erinet.com

    3. Cousins, Our list archives - including those from when our list was at Maiser - will soon be more accessible to us and will have facilities for searching, similar to (but I understand better than) the ones that we use for the Roots-L posts! If you have not checked the Roots-L archives, please do so - it is a valuable resource - the URLs are http://searches.rootsweb.com/roots-l.search.html and http://www.rootsweb.com/roots-l/index/ I will let you know more as soon as I do about how to reach them. Target date for the archives to be online is December 1, as best I can tell; updates will be sent as I receive them. Please remember not to send attachments to the list. If you have data in an attachment, post to the list that you have it, and let cousins request it privately. Remember, please - if you need my help for anything, use the subject line CAROL so that your post will filter correctly and not get lost in my "regular" inbox with all the junk mail I receive. Carol

    1. JOHNSON, JoAnna & TANNER, John Thomas;AL
    2. Patsy
    3. Hello, I'm still hoping someone will know these folks. Or any TANNER's in AL. I am looking for information on JoAnna JOHNSON b Oct 7, 1871,d March 21, 1939, and/or her husband John Thomas TANNER b July 4, 1869, d Feb 5, 1913, who had at least six children, including Mabel TANNER b. May 11, 1899 in Anniston, Calhoun Co, AL Winnie TANNER SEARCY, Ruth TANNER HOBBS; William TANNER, Hosea TANNER and Johnny TANNER. JoAnna and John Thomas were both born in AL, but I'm not sure where. They were on the 1910 Talladega Co Census and according to that, their parents were also born in AL. They may have lived in Hokes Bluff AL at some time. JoAnna may be a descendent of Hosea (b SC abt 1808) and Louisa (b GA abt 1818) JOHNSON, but this is not confirmed. Mabel TANNER married Clarence Victor SPRADLEY Oct 23, 1912 in Talladega CO, Al, and later moved to Tuscaloosa. My father was the son of Mabel and Clarence SPRADLEY and always said he was "part Creek Indian" but I was not concerned about details of this until it was too late to ask him. Does this match any of your information? I have more information on Hosea and Louisa but nothing else on JoAnna or John T. Calvary, Musgrove's Batt. from Nov. 1862 to Apr 1865. Viney and Madison were married in 1864. Madison must have been home on furlough. Madison stated he was never wounded or captured when he applied for his pension in 1916 while living with his stepson James Johnson. Family legend states he was a prisoner in Cairo, IL. Viney went to IL to be with him when he was released. They came home on a flatboat down the Mississippi River and had Margaret in KY in 1866 on the way home. It is entirely possible he was not a prisioner, but he was north of KY when the war ended and Viney went to meet him and accompany him home. Thanks, Lisa Wilson LKWWilson@aol.com

    1. Isaac James and other Jameses buried in Ricetown Chapel Cemetery, Blount Co., AL
    2. James T. Rice
    3. Hello Chuck, I'm replying to the Blount List, since others may be interested in the cemetery I'm mentioning. There is in Blount Co., AL the still active Ricetown Chapel Cemetery, which had over 120 graves in it several years ago when it was cataloged. It was established in the late 19th century by my grandfather, David Preston Rice, and others and is located on a hill a few hundred yards above the house DPR built. I have the catalog for this cemetery, and there are several Jameses in it, including an Isaac. I'm in the process of putting the cemetery catalog into computer file format and sending it to the Blount County Webmaster. She will then post it to the Blount Web Page. However, let me go ahead and list some of the Jameses here: Patsa K. James June 12, 1857 - May 15, 1892 Isaac James February 13, 1818 - May 5, 1900 Rhoda A., wife of Isaac James May 18, 1819 - August 20, 1879 Thomas A. James September 29, 1842 - October 9, 1871 D.L. James May 8, 1852 - February 5, 1906 J.H. Huston James June 14, 1846 - June 26, 1925 Sarah E. James December 17, 1855 - May 7, 1925 Margaret L. James August 27, 1843 - November 22, 1896 I believe that's all the Jameses. Since we are talking about cemeteries and haloween is tomorrow, the following joke may be appropriate: Two men were walking home after a Halloween party and decided to take a shortcut through the cemetery just for laughs. Right in the middle of the cemetery they were startled by a tap-tap-tapping noise coming from the misty shadows. Trembling with fear, they found an old man with a hammer and chisel, chipping away at one of the headstones. "Holy cow, Mister," one of them said after catching his breath, "You scared us half to death -- we thought you were a ghost! What are you doing working here so late at night?" "Those fools!" the old man grumbled. "They misspelled my name!" -- Regards, Jim Rice (jimtrice@prodigy.net) CRJBAMA@aol.com wrote: > > Looking for information on Jones Chapel Cemetery, in Cullman County. 2. Looking for information on Jones Chapel Cemetery, in Cullman County. A friend found in Cullman county Churches and Cemeteries Vol II that the Jones Chapel Cemetery predates the 1850's. The oldest marked grave is for twin daughters of Daniel James & Martha Jane James, and died on August 8, 1856. Because of the location of this grave it is apparent that a number of graves without names and dates would have been placed in the cemetery prior to 1856. There are approximately 482 graves marked with either no name or date, or illegible names and dates. At present the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church and Church of Christ Jones Chapel are active and next to the cemetery. Looking for any information that might be out there. Daniel James is my Great-Great-Grandfather. His father Isaac James is probably buried there, as is my Great-Grandfather Louis James. I feel several other family members are buried in the cemetery. All in unmarked graves. Thanks Chuck James, Montgomery Alabama
