Can someone tell me where the area of Mauldin was located in 1897? War records have this Post Office on it...Person lived in Chepultepec. Thanks, Debbie
I am passing this information along because it sounds very promising. It's a peer-to-peer application, a little like the Napster application, where music lovers could search for, and download, millions of music CDs or individual songs. It's a new use of technology to search for roots. I'm not endorsing it....just passing along information for you to check out yourself. > Several people at Brigham Young University have finalized a new, > peer-to-peer network for > genealogy. Talk about a list mom in the background. We rarely hear from you. How's things in your corner of the world? Weren't you working on Fowlers at one time? Terry "G. Oops folks. Sorry. The guy mowing the grass at the cemtery told my hubby that it was this sat. The cemetery committee head called me and tells me that it is the third sat of May, which will be the 18th. Apologies. Melba

I have a record sent to me on one of my ancestors, Joseph Powell, that says he was born in 1834 at Dekalb, Blount County. I know there is the nearby DeKalb County, but I dont find a town named Dekalb in the Blount/Cullman area. Has anyone ever heard of a town or place by that name in Blount? Thanks, Dickey Powell
I am having trouble also. Just checking to see if I get this back. Maybe Melba got it fixed for everyone. Thanks Melba.
ALBLOUNT problem solved anyway...hooray Now back to the good stuff...I had a request from a lady about Sarah Gilliland's will naming her children. Sarah is the wife of the Rev John Gilliland. I found the info and thought all the Gilliland "grandchildren" out there might enjoy seeing the information. It is as follows: page 1-18 of THE RICKS FAMILY by Donald Ricks "Mrs. Saffels located the following St Clair County, Alabama will extract for John Gilliland and wife, Sarah, at the Gadsden, Alabama Public Library": GILLILAND, JOHN, deceased 3-11-1859 Sarah Gilliland wife of deceased files for Dower. Only heirs are Sarah, the widow; James A Gilliland, son and Adm of the estate; Nancy M Ricks, wife of Ransom Rix of Tisha Mingo Co. Mississippi; William B Gilliland of Marshall County Alabama; Hiram J Gilliland of St Clair Co. Alabama; Rebecca J Smith , wife of Hugh Smith of St Clair Co. Alabama; Joseph Webb, under 14 and living with father, Stephen Webb of St Clair co Alabama in right of son, Jas A ; Lucinda H Asbel, wife of Wilham Asbel (?), county, Arkansas (county not named); John W Gilliland of St Clair Co., Alabama; Haney F. Gilliland; Daniel H F Gilliland; Sarah E Gilliland, all under 21 with mother in St Clair County, Alabama; Jas F Stone, appointed guardian for Joseph Webb, son of deceased daughter, Mary Ann Gilliland (widow Sarah Elizabeth). 6-2-59 Dower land assigned by Simeon W Arnold, Isaiah Brothers, Israel Brothers, W H Crump, and John Phillips. (Estates "B", 1834-1858, page 25). END
No need for anyone to get back to me. I am testing to see IF I GET THIS BACK. I informed Otelco that my favorite sites were NOT junk mail. I am still getting unwanted sales pitches, FunForwards, etc. that are unwanted. I sure hate missing everyone's posts. maybe this is fixed. Melba
