    3. My PC cillan sets up my 'little red eye' on my tool box and I can look to see what it is blocking now but have learned to ignore it. I also have a very long wait to get on ancestry even with my subscription with all the efforts to get in my computer. I just ask for the site and go make a cup of tea and look over to see when they decide to give up. It also is slowed you the web ads that ancestry puts on that want to run active x controls and my system will not let them. I have learned to just sit back and take my break. I also keep up a page when I log off during the day. That way when I go back on I can get on easier the next time. You just have to work around them. But your system should be able to block them. They just hate it. Quinta Has anyone had the trouble on the LDS census of 1880 as I have? I run Zone Alarm to have a firewall protection of my computer. When I enter their site the Zone Alarm goes wild. I have tried at different times and the same thing happens. It seems to sets off snifflers trying to get into my computer at different ports. I just wondered if anyone else has noticed this happening? Jim

    1. [ALBLOUNT-L] Death & Marriage Notices From Jefferson Co., AL Newspapers (1854-1881)
    2. !!!BOOK ANNOUNCEMENT!!! DEATH AND MARRIAGE NOTICES FROM JEFFERSON COUNTY, ALABAMA NEWSPAPERS, Volume I (1854-1881) Compiled by Larry E. Caver, Jr. This is to inform you about the release of my latest book, Death And Marriage Notices From Jefferson County, Alabama Newspapers, Vol. I (1854-1881). This is the first volume in a continuing series of newspaper transcriptions related to Jefferson County, Alabama. The collection contains newspaper transcriptions from surviving issues of newspapers that once operated in Jefferson County between the years 1854-1881. The book has approximately 354 pages, soft binding and includes a detailed index. It contains newspaper transcriptions from surviving issues of: The Jones Valley Times (1854-1855), The Elyton Herald (1869), The Daily News (1874), The Birmingham Observer (1880-1881), The Alabama True Issue (1880), The Birmingham Iron Age (1874-1881), and The Weekly Independent (1879). This collection is of special interest for anyone doing research in the Greater Birmingham, Alabama area. The earliest newspapers of Jefferson County were published at the town of Elyton, and recorded many death and marriage notices for some of the earliest settlers of Jefferson County and neighboring counties. Later newspapers were published in the newly formed city of Birmingham. These newspapers recorded valuable information on the city's early settlers. Many of these settlers had migrated from diverse parts of the entire state to become residents of Alabama's "Melting Pot". Birmingham's early newspapers also included many news items copied from other newspapers in the surrounding counties of St. Clair, Shelby, Bibb, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Blount. They also included news items copied from newspapers in counties in North Alabama such as Madison, Lauderdale, Pickens, Cullman, DeKalb and Jackson. This collection is also a value tool for anyone researching Alabama. The Birmingham Iron Age included weekly columns, "Died In Alabama", "Married In Alabama", and "State News", which provided many death and marriage notices from all over the state. These columns included coverage extending north to Huntsville and as far south as Mobile. The official release date for this book is November 1, 2002. The book has been published and copies will be available for purchase on or after this date. The book has been published by Pioneer Publishing Company. It is available for $35 per copy plus $4 postage/handling. If you would like to order a copy of this forthcoming book, you can use the form below. 3. The General Land Office online records are very interesting and informative concerning original purchasers of land in Alabama from 1820 onward. However, I'm interested in my ancestor's land purchases prior to that time, especially in the vicinity of Township 13S, Range 1E. This generally follows present day Highway 75 south from Oneonta to Inland, on both sides of the highway. The following were some of the purchasers: Blakely, John 07/26/1819 Section 14 Holmark, Wyatt 07/08/1819 31 Box, Stephen 07/06/1819 12 Also, the following purchased land in Township 12, Range 1E: Box, John 07/06/1819 28 Shelton, Taliaferro 07/06/1819 32 Hanby, Gabriel 07/13/1819 34 The above purchasers only acquired part of the land in the above sections, not the entire section.

    3. The Southern Democrat Oneonta, Alabama Thursday, May 11, 1944 Uncle Joe Marsh, age 93, died at his home at Nectar, on Thursday, May 4th, of pneumonia. He had been ill from other complications for sometime, and when he contracted pneumonia, he was not able to overcome it. Mr. Marsh was a pioneer citizen of the Nectar community, having moved there in his early child hood. He was a good Christian citizen, and was a member of the Baptist church, and as long as his health permitted, took an active part in church work. Mr. Marsh was a truly good man and a good neighbor. He always rendered any service he could to those about him, who were in need. He had made and held many warm friends. He is survived by five sons, Bige, John, George, Eugene, and Lon Marsh, all of Nectar; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Davidson, of Birmingham, and Mrs.Rose Standridge, of Nectar; 29 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at White's Chapel, and were conducted by Revs. J.E. Herring, Otto and Jason Faile, and Thomas Reid. Burial was in adjoining cemetery, with Drinkard, of Oneonta , in charge. (NOTE: I did not know the Nectar Congregational Methodist Church adjoining the Nectar Cem. was known as White's Chapel in 1944.)

    3. David, I didn't find a whole lot in my library here at the house. Something I did come across. The 1860 census indicated he owned real estate. There are 2 entries in the 1855 Tract Book. You'd actually have to look at the tract to get the reference. I looked at the BLM page and found a few listings for a John Allison. At his age (60) in 1860, you're probably not going to find out a whole lot more about him. Good luck though. "David S. Payne" wrote: > I am looking for a John Allison that was in Blount Co.
