    1. [ALBLOUNT-L] WAID/TIDWELL
    2. Doug & Melba Lowe
    3. Does anyone have any information on Lankford Waid and his wife Sarah Tidwell? Their son Velt Archer Waid was born 1879 in St Clair County, Alabama. He died in 1963 and is buried Tidwell Cemetery, Allgood, Alabama. According to a small book by the late Judge Waid, Lankford is the son of Elijah, who was the son of James Waid (son of Greenberry Waid and wife Amelia Thompson). Since my hubby has the Thompsons and Mortons that flow into this family I am set as far as that part of their background goes. The Waid info that I have is just what Judge Waid has put out. Nothing further at the museum. I will be meeting with a couple who desires to know more about Lankford and Sarah and about their son Velt Waid. If anyone has further info on this family would love to hear from you and will put you in touch with the couple. I am hoping to have a fruitful meeting with them at the museum at the end of the month. I suspect that Sarah Tidwell is a descendant of Robert Tidwell and Monica Mamie Roden because of where Velt and Sarah are buried. Could very well descend from Jeremiah, Vardy or Blake Tidwell, who were sons of Robert and Monie. Any help in helping me to assist this sweet couple would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Melba Lowe

    3. ----------from Barbara's original message------------ >>Have reason to believe they lie in Western division of old Blount Co., **now** Southwestern part of Cullman Co.>> [* the *'s around the word "now" are mine] The above portion of Barbara's inquiry led me to believe that she was speaking of that SW portion of Cullman Co which was gained by Cullman from Blount Co. in 1887 [gained previously by Blount from Walker]. There are two BRADFORD families listed on the Blount Co census for 1850 which might shed light on this. One is for John [60], Catherine [56] and William [21]. The other one is for Daniel [75] and Sarah Bradford [86]. ----------Barbara's original message--------- >>>>>1)John and Catie McSwain BRADFORD (b. SC d. 1869 & 1873) 2) Darnel and Sarah BRADFORD (b. 3. Melba and Barbara, Since the inquiry was for burials about 1860 to 1873, prior to Cullman county coming into existence, and the assumption was for "old Blount co.", such burials in Blount county would never have been in Walker county, and at 1873 the involved county boundaries hadn't changed, and remained so until the formation of Cullman county. So only at 1887 did Cullman county extend south into what had been Walker county at Cullman county's formation date. And had they been Blount county burials of those dates proposed, they could never have been Walker county located, since, as above, Blount county's borders involved had stayed stagnant from 1822 to 1877. Cullman's present day borders are only of academic interest in this matter otherwise. >>>>Barbara Buettner wrote: >>>> >>>>Would anyone have knowledge or a guess as to where the following folks >>>> >>>> >are buried???: > > >>>>>1)John and Catie McSwain BRADFORD (b. 3. Richard, The map at http://www.segenealogy.com/alabama/al_maps/al58.htm shows Cullman Co as it was in 1877. The SW portion of the current Cullman Co is not in that area. Look at the maps with the links listed under Alabama Census Maps 1790 - 1930 on the page at http://www.segenealogy.com/alabama/al_maps.htm ] If you click the link [Overlay Modern Map], these maps show the former and current boundries for the counties, you will see that the SW portion of the current Cullman County is not in the area which was once part of Winston. It is in the area that was Walker, Blount and Jeffeson at various times. See especially these two: 1870 census map with overlay: http://www.segenealogy.com/alabama/al_maps/al_1870-new.htm and 1880 census map with overlay: http://www.segenealogy.com/alabama/al_maps/al_1880-new.htm Comparing the above maps with the other maps[see list in former email] on the site, one can see that the SW portion of present day Cullman Co was in the area that changed counties several times between Walker, Blount and Jefferson counties. 3. Actually the SW part of Cullman Co was part of several counties, depending on the year of which one is speaking. The maps for the counties for each census year show the SW portion as follows: 1800 Indian Lands 1820 Blount and Jefferson 1830 Walker 1840 Walker 1850 Walker 1860 Walker 1870 Walker 1880 Blount 1900 Blount and Cullman 1910 Cullman 1920 Cullman NOTE: the above information is about just the SW section portion of present day Cullman Co. Part of present Cullman was still Walker and Blount. 1879 Blount exchanged [for some of future Cullman] with Walker, Blount gained from Cullman. 1887 Cullman gained some from Blount. 1893 Cullman gained more from Blount. 1853 Cullman gained from Walker.
