Bob, <<<< This family seemed to name every child after an uncle or aunt.>>>>> -- Not just in your Huffstetler family!!!! It seems that most families of that time period named all their children for someone else. In one of my lines, I have a chart that shows one couple's children [the children were born 1823-1840] and grandchildren [born 1841-1880]. Of the 58 known grand-children, all except about 10 have at least one name [most have 2 or 3] from a grandparent, parent, aunt or uncle listed on the chart. I suspect that those have a name from their "other" [the child in this line's spouse] parent's family. One of this couple's grand-child had 73 known grand-children. The names of his grandchildren [1st one born 1893] did not contain as large a percentage of duplicate names. In fact there were only about 15 who were named for a grandparent, parent, aunt or uncle. Correction... While posting a query about Michael Huffstetler, Jr. and Elizzabeth Hullett, I made the following side remark. I believe his brother George Huffstetler was the same George Huffstetler who > Michael Huffstetler, Jr did have a brother named George, but the George I had in mind, was the George who was a brother of his father, Michael Huffstetler, Sr. I have not documented which George went to Alabama. I received information that the George I was referring to was probably the son of Johann Adam Huffstetler. Incidently, Michael Sr. also had a brother named John Adam. Same one? Who knows? This family seemed to name every child after an uncle or aunt. I have no reason not to believe it. At least we have more clues. Bob Hullette
Dear Readers, recently heard from a lady who has been quite ill. She sought my help in identifying a picture that she has in her possession. She says it might be a Bynum or possibly Biddy Harris, daughter of Micajah Harris. I am trying to get the picture placed in a local newspaper for identification purposes and have passed copies to some folks that might be able to help with this puzzle. If anyone has a picture of Biddy for comparison this would be great! I am taking a picture to the Blount Co. Museum in Oneonta this morning and those of you who live close by and are familiar with this family, please drop in and see if you can help this sweet lady. Amy Rhudy, the curator, will have at her desk. Just tell her you would like to see the picture that Melba spoke of on the rootsweb sites and she will gladly show it to you. Thanks, Melba Lowe

Dear List Members, My grandmother, Ida P. Phillips-Cornelius, died in 1975. My grandfather, John Alonzo Cornelius, preceded her in October 1968. They lived in Attalla, Alabama at their death. Before she passed away she kept an old family Bible that had information on both the Cornelius and Phillips families of Blount and Marshal Counties. After her passing no seems to know where that Bible may be. Can anyone provide me a lead regarding her Bible. I do not need to get the Bible back. I just need the information that is in it. Sincerely, Dr. Randall M. Haney, Jacksonville, Florida

The name Warham Easley shows up in Alabama, so thought this might be of interest. From an old Genealogical Colletion of Virginia. The following is the entire piece and starts out "Judge Anderson" and continues with his ancestors. Have no idea who this man is. Easley genealogy in it's entirity: Judge Anderson's father was William Anderson and his mother was Elizabeth Easley. Her great grandfather was Warham Easley the immigrant forbear. Judge Anderson's great grandfather was James Anderson, born in Scotland, went to Ireland, from which he migrated. He landed in Philadelphia and went to Augusta Co. Virginia. His wife's name was Ann Erwin. Their son William married Elizabeth or Betty Easley in Greenville Co. SC and then removed to Kentucky, and to Clark Co. Ala. where we find him in the 1819 census, a special census taken of Alabama inhabitants in Mississippi territory, of which Alabama was a part before it became a state. There were some Easleys in this census, among them Warham Easley who later became a member of the Sumter County Commission. Died Mrs Elizabeth Anderson, consort of William Anderson Sr. Esq. in the 73rd year of her age. She was married to Mr Anderson at the age of 16, having been born in SC in 1770. Her husband, 80 years of age, died Friday night 11 Feb 1845. Elizabeth Easley was the daughter of John Easley, 1st Lieutenant in the Revolutionary War. and his wife Ann Gowen. John's father was John and his mother was Joyce; this John's parents were Warham Easley and his wife Sara Barnes; Warham's father and mother were Robert Easley and Ann Parker. Warham Easley's will is in Book 1 page 84 and mentions sons Creed T, Samuel W, Christopher B, daughter Martha Easley Foreman, wife Emily, minor heirs: Catherine, Maria, Elizabeth Jane and Virginia Noble. Warham Easley lived near Belmont. END
To Blount County Researchers, I would appreciate any help that might be available in finding information about my great-grandfather, who I think was named Tom Shelton. He lived in Brooksville and had 9 sons and two daughters in the late 1800s and early 1900s. One of those sons was Patrick Henry Shelton, who married Dona Mae Hughes (second wife) and moved to Texas. He later brought Dona Mae and all their children back to Blount County and left them so he could go back to Texas and marry someone else. He died in Texas. One of the children he abandoned was my mother, Lona LaVerne Shelton Hancock. There are no records of Patrick Henry Shelton having lived in Blount County, although I know he and his family were from Liberty and Brooksville, and I did find his first wife on a list of those who died in Blount County (1906). If I can find out for sure who my great-grandfather was, I can trace other relatives. I think there is some possibility that my great-grandfather might have been Thomas P. Shelton, son of George D. Shelton and Eveline. There appears to be some question in the online records as to whether this person's name is Thomas P. Shelton or Thomas B. Shelton and whether he was married to Helen M. Brady or Helen McBrady and how many children they really had. If there is anyone who can help me unravel this puzzle, I would really appreciate it. Although I have a lot of information about Pat Shelton's second wife (my grandmother) and all their children, it's difficult to pinpoint Pat's mother and father. Also, I have the family Bible for Rufus J. and Nancy E. (Hyatt) Hughes, parents of Dona Mae Hughes and Floyd Hughes. There are many birth and death listings in it for some of the Hughes and Hyatts and also an extensive listing of the Greens. Floyd Hughes married someone from the Green family. If this would be interesting to anyone, I will be happy to forward the information. Thank you for your help, Sue Hancock Jones Lubbock, TX [email protected] [email protected]

Does anyone know what happened to Michael Huffstetler, Jr, b. abt 1767 (son of Michael Huffstetler, Sr.) and his wife, Elizabeth Hullett? I believe Michael lived near King's Mountain, Lincoln Co. NC or York Co. SC. Apparently, he was married before to Nancy (unknown) and died before 1818. I am attempting to learn who their children were. Did they settle in Tennessee or Missouri? I believe his brother George Huffstetler was the same George Huffstetler who moved to Blount County, Alabama. (possibly through Anderston Co. TN) Any information would be appreciated. Bob Hullette
