    1. [ALBLOUNT-L] Moody's Chapel Cemetery Posted
    2. Robin Sterling
    3. Hello Fellow Blount County Researchers! Just posted another "bonus" cemetery: Moody's Chapel Cemetery. This cemetery is just over the Blount County line into Etowah County near Altoona. Many old Blount County families are buried there including the Bynum, Jackson, and Nix families. You can find this cemetery in the "Ms" on the Blount County Cemetery page at this site: http://home.hiwaay.net/~bobwonda/index.html The "Ms" are not in perfect alphabetical order just yet...I'll get that straightened out in a day or so. Moody's Chapel will be represented in Volume 3 of the Blount County Cemetery books to be published later this year. kind regards, robin

    1. [ALBLOUNT-L] Village Springs Cemetery
    2. We live near Village Springs, but we are not natives of this area and I have no idea where this cemetery would be located. I asked a couple of people who have lived in this area for years and they didn't know anything about it, either. If someone could come up with an exact location, I'd be willing to take a shot at enumerating or at least looking for particular gravesites. We live in Remlap in Blount Co. in the southernmost tip of the county, so I assume the Village Springs in question is the one just below us on Hwy 75? Evelyn

    1. [ALBLOUNT-L] Request for help
    2. Sue Smith
    3. Hello Everyone, Over the last number of years, I have from time to time posted information and queries on this Rootsweb site regarding the burial site of my GGrandfather and GGrandmother, Samuel Rogers (1832-1911) and Delilah Eaton-Rogers (1839-1893). Samuel was a veteran of the War Between the States and served in two separate Regiments. Also buried there is Gregory Glasscock (1793-1869) and his wife Sara Ryan-Glasscock (1795-1872). Gregory was a Veteran of The War of 1812 and has a Commemorative Veteran Gravestone located at Antioch Cemetery, on the other side of the County. The Gravestone was placed there because the "Blount County Memorial Committee" did not know where he was buried. Both of these families are buried on the same land they at one time owned and farmed. We have discovered over 35 individual graves and most are disappearing despite our efforts to protect them. The Cemetery is on private land off Cox Cove Road, SE of Bangor and the current owner lets his cattle roam ! throughout the Cemetery at will. Consequently, gravestones have been broken and scattered and graves have been scuffed away. A group of us, representing the descendants and relatives of those buried there, have been in contact with the owner seeking permission to place a fence around the graves. We have been talking to him now for 8 years without success. Most recently however, he stated that we will have to buy the property because we definitely cannot fence it within his fence line. At this point, my next step is to consult with an attorney that is knowledgeable in these matters and to see what can be done now to protect those graves. So I am turning to the ever-faithful Blount County List to ask if anyone knows of such a lawyer. If you do, please E-mail his/her telephone number to me and I will call them direct. Thanks for all your help, both past and present. Frank Smith

    1. [ALBLOUNT-L] Lorren and McPherson Surnames
    2. Becky Kivak
    3. Good morning. I have been a silent person on the list...actually I haven't been working my genealogy in a while, but thought I would try again to find that elusive ancestor (big grin). The surname is "Lorren" but the spelling may show as any variation. Here is what I know: John Lorren, born betw 1791-95 Hawkins Co., TN (but can't find him there) married Ann McPherson (can't find her but can find her family) in Roane/Rhea Co., TN abt 1815. It is believed John and Ann died when their children were in their teens and after they had moved to Blount Co., Al from TN (betw 1815 and 1822 ). In the book "Kincheloe, McPherson & Related Families" (which I have) the author reveals the following information on this illusive John Lorren: (note that where there may be a conflict in information from this book and family documentation, I have gone with the family information using information from this book as a 'springboard'): Ann McPherson b. Hawkins or Jefferson County, Tenn., youngest of 12 ch. of her parents, Daniel and Susannah (KINCHELOE) McPherson m. Roane Co., Tenn. about 1815 John LORREN, a British soldier, who came from Ireland to the present site of the City of Chicago, Ill. and there made entry of a grant of land (about the time her [Ann McPherson] brother, Elijah Daniel McPherson, was in Chicago and was claimed to have made a similar entry of land). Elijah Daniel McPherson moved in 1829 or 1830 from Roane or Rhea Co., Tenn. to Buck Creek section of Carroll Co., GA. About the same time John and Ann (McPherson) LORREN moved from the same Tenn. counties to the vicinity of later Oak Level, Ala. then in Benton, later Calhoun and now Cleburne Co., Ala., which Ala. county adjoins Carroll Co., GA and these two families exchanged visits. Their son, George Lorren, made a visit to his uncle, said Elijah Daniel McPherson, in summer of 1870 at Oak Level, when he was visiting there the families of his dauther, Emily (McPherson) HENDON, and Louisa (McPherson) EARNEST. Recollections of their meeting there, as preserved, included Elijah Daniel's statement then made that said George Lorren's father, John, was a British soldier. Ch[ildren]. (of John and Ann [McPherson] LORREN included: 1. George 2. John, Jr. 3. Jerusha, b. Ala. 1822 When John and Ann died (where or why unknown) George remained in Alabama, John apparently left as he has not been found, Jerusha apparently went to live with her mother's relatives according to the following census (note on the Blount Co., Census, Jerusha is listed as "Jarncia Laurin age 28 born in Alabama): Their daughter, Jerusha, is recorded in the 1850 Census of the 17th Dist. of Blount Co., Ala. living in the family of her cousin, Daniel McPherson. Jerusha's brother (not clear if this is George or John) went to Blount Co., Ala. and there m. his cousin, a dau. of Henry and Susannah (GLASCOCK) McPherson, dau of Lewis and Narcissus McPherson. There seems to be no more reasonable explanation for Jerusha Lorren living in the family of her cousin, Daniel McPherson other than that she was the orphan niece of Daniel's father, Capt. George McPherson, older brother of her mother, Ann (McPherson) LORREN Thank you to all for any help or information you can pass my way. I am disabled and traveling these days is one of those obstacles I can't seem to overcome so I am especially grateful for any assistance. Becky Kivak

    3. Terry, there is conflicting information in this whole line - the SAPP line and the ANDERSON - and so far, much of what I have heard is totally undocumented. Though I do very much treasure family stories, you know how I am about documentation. Though the stories all have Samuel in Bryce's in Tuscaloosa, some have him going there as an old man, and some have him going soon after the civil war. According to my database, he married again in 1874, there in Blount, so I tend to (at this point until I get info to the contrary) go with his granddaughter's report of him going to Bryce's as an old man - she did, after all, know him. Unfortunately, that does not point him out on a census ANYWHERE - the only one I can find him on is the 1850, as a 12yo with his mother, in Cherokee county, GA. Maybe he had mental issues resulting from the war and Dorinda's mother's death and hid from the census taker - I have no idea. If it were only on one census I could understand him missing - but he lived to be an old man - why is he apparently not on ANY of them? Frankly do not remember whether I got these death certificates or not - surely I did - but will request them if not - thank you!! Re: your Madison DOVER - do you know if he belonged to any of those DOVER families who were in that area in 1850? As always, your insight and expertise are much appreciated, Terry - you are SUPER!! 2. Carol C-H
    3. My sons' g2gmother is Dorinda ANDERSON. In 1870, 8yo Dorinda lived in Blount County, AL with David and Susannah (Susan) YOUNG. Dorinda's daughter wrote a family history, which included the fact that Samuel B. ANDERSON was Dorinda's father (this granddaughter knew him). Samuel ANDERSON, age 12, lived with his mother, Sarah, and his younger brothers in Cherokee County, GA, in 1850. The David YOUNG family lived just a couple of doors down from them, and had several daughters. In 1860, I can not find Sarah or Samuel ANDERSON, or David and Susannah/Susan YOUNG, but Samuel ANDERSON's younger siblings are living in Falling Rock, Pickens County, GA, with Samuel's 19yo younger brother Moses as head of household. I can assume that Sarah ANDERSON died, but where is Samuel in 1860, and where are the YOUNGs? Any and all assistance with this puzzle would be much appreciated! 1 **__?__ Anderson +**Sarah __?__ b: 1805 in SC 2 *Samuel B.
