Joe, Have you checked St. Clair Co. and Jefferson Co. Alabama? I have a large McLaughlin family which settled there. It would not be that big a stretch for Charles to migrate to Perry/Bibb from the area since it is fairly close. My family patriarch was John C. McLaughlin and he came to St. Clair Co., through Tennessee but the border between Tenn, SC, & NC changed a few times. I believe that John also had a brother named Daniel but have not positively confirmed it. You might do some searches in that area and Tennessee as well (my notes say Washington Co.) and see what you turn up.
