Just fyi, one can find an index to appealed court cases 1696-1906 in the First Decennial Digest. This as well as State Reports for (Alabama, Texas, Ill., etc.) can be found at Law Schools such as the University of Texas, University of Houston. I do not know if the U of Al in Tuscaloosa has a law school or not. Find a Law school in your state. The index usually lists the plaintiff's name first. Example: State of Alabama vs. Smith or Jones vs. Bremond. One can also access court cases at www.westlaw.com. You have to have a credit card to use this site. They charge by the case. The last one I printed was $12.00. You do not have to be an attorney to obtain cases from Westlaw. One should know how to read a case citation before trying to use a law library for genealogical research. This is a fab. and little known source for genealogical info. and worth the effort. The full books have been scanned. http://www.archive.org/details/texts In the search box type: reports of cases alabama In the media type box, select: text and American Libraries Click on a link from the search results list. You can view the table of contents or search the book's contents by clicking on the image of the book. You can also download these books to your computer if you find a case that involves your ancestor. These court case books usually include disputes of: land, loans, business partnerships, wills, etc. Some of the cases are quite lengthy while others provide very little information. If you are looking for other locations, replace Alabama with another state or omit Alabama in the search box. They are a great resource tool for genealogists! Good luck!!
