This information came from a distant cousin - Karlan Holack who lives in Boston, GA (yes Georgia) - which is in South Georgia - and a "suburb" of a little town called Thomasville. Karlan was a Langston prior to marriage. Her great grandfather, like mine was Marshall Monroe. Karlan has done extensive research. I have not seen her research, but believe that she has put alot of sweat and tears, etc. Marshall Monroe married Effie Hill. Effie's father was James Washingto Hill, a.k.k Richard Hill. Richard's wife was named, Mandy Moria Ann Frances Jones. Her parents wer Raiford Jones and Delilah Stackman. His mother was Elizabeth Hill. This is where Karlan got stuck, as she told me. Karlan said that Richard was illigitimate. And rumor has it that Elizabeth could have been a prostitute.... That is not confirmed, but a oral story... Therefore Richard's father is hard to trace as will as Elizabeth. If you find out, please let me know. I would love to know how we are connected. JoEllen Holmes

Believe me, after 20 years of reading genealogy, there are a lot of illegitimate as well as secrets about fathers of children EVERYWHERE in every family! All those children who were really grandchildren and all those children whose fathers were not the husbands.....If DNA were 100%, it would be the only true way to tell. All the rest of genealogy is hypothetical and only accurate if the women told the truth about the fathers. It is strange to me that our lineage doesn't go by maternity instead of paternity. But, that's just cultural. Still, genealogy is great fun and the family we meet is still OUR FAMILY.
