Please do not respond to me about the books. C. Horton October 10, 2008 Ala. newspapers of yore featured in book Nancianne Parkes Suber Special to The Clarion-Ledger Larry E. Caver Jr., whose interesting work transcribing Alabama newspapers of yore has been a special source of information for family researchers, has released a new book of genealogical abstracts from Marengo County, Ala., newspapers from 1846 to 1910. This new book contains transcriptions from Southern Republican (1869-1871), Marengo News-Journal (1873-1876), Marengo Patriot (1840), Morning Herald (1865), Bigbee News (1873), Demoplis Times (1910) and Linden Reporter (1881). This is also a valuable resource for legal notices from one of Alabama's "Burnt Counties." Genealogical Abstracts From Marengo County, AL Newspapers (1840-1910) is 250 pages and is available from Pioneer Publishing Co., Box 408, Carrollton, MS 38917 for $25 plus $5 shipping. The company can be reached at (662) 237-6010. To be released soon will be another volume of newspaper transcriptions titled Transcriptions From Dallas County, AL Newspapers (1823-1865). This volume will be about 400 pages and will be released through Pioneer Press sometime in 2009.
