    3. Bibb county Marriages: Enoch Smith married Mary Bruce June 21, 1844 Enoch Smith married Elizabeth Coker Jan. 18, 1843 E.C. Smith married Tabitha E. Fancher Jan. 4, 1844 1850 Bibb co. census: Enoch Smith age 32 born AL Elizabeth 30 born AL ( I ASSUME this is Elizabeth Coker above?) Thomas age 7 b. AL John 6 b. AL Adam age 3 b. AL Parolee age 1 b. AL next door: John Smith age 58 b. NC Catherine 65 b. NC, etc. 1860 Bibb Co. census: SIX MILE P.O. probably named for Six mile creek. This is in the southeast corner of Bibb Co. very near Chilton Co. line Enoch Smith age 44 born NC Amanda age 13 Calvin age 12 Henry age 10 Wife dead? QUESTION- WHERE are AMANDA and CALVIN in 1850 CENSUS OR IS THIS A DIFFERENT ENOCH SMITH THAN IS ON THE 1850 CENSUS? Possible 2 Enoch Smiths? 1840 Bibb Co. census: Adam Smith - males in his household: 1 age 20-30, and Adam age 70-80 listed next to Adam is Enoch Smith age 20-30 Jacob Smith age 20-30 "Bibb County, Alabama Ancestral Homesteads" has: Enoch Smith residing very near Bibb Mill (near Six mile creek) he is listed with 80.44 acres Section 29, township 23 N. Range 12E dated 9-20-1839 and 40.22 a. dated 11-10-1840 Sec. 29, Tsp. 23N, Range 12E No other Smiths listed, but a William V. Bruce is listed with 4 land records: Sec. 30, Tsp. 23N, R.12#, Sec. 30, Tsp. 23N, R.12E, Sec. 30, Tsp. 23N, R.12E,& Sec. 31, Tsp. 23N, Range 12E. Bibb Mill is located in Section 30, Tsp. 23N. WHEN ONE PLOTS ENOCH'S LAND AND WILLIAM V. BRUCE'S LAND ON A SECTION, TOWNSHIP MAP, YOU SEE THEY WERE NEIGHBORS. This may be a clue that this Enoch Smith was the one who married Mary Bruce in 1844? My husband's Lawrence, Cox, and Smitherman ancestors lived in this area of Bibb Co. I recognize the neighbors of Adam and Enoch Smith of the 1840 census as those who lived in the vicinity of Cox, AL, Randolph, AL, and the Six mile Creek area. So......Possibly, the Enoch on the 1840 census is the same one as is on the 1860 census? Why aren't you interested in that 70-80 yr. old Adam Smith as possible pappy of Enoch and Jacob Smith living next door? Please know Baker County was renamed Chilton County. You need to research your Smith in Bibb, Chilton, and Perry Counties. It appears to me that there were two Enoch Smiths in Bibb County. Possibly, someone else who researches these families can shed some light? I am looking to see if they also had a son, Enoch? On the 1840 Census Bibb Co. shows John Smith, HOH with 2 sons & 3 dau. I have an Enoch Smith as GGGrandfather, & not sure who his parents were. There was an Enoch Smith, that was son of Adam and Eliz. Gomer Smith, but now have been told he was not my GG Grandfather. I am hoping the Cost descendents might be able to provide me with info. on family of John & Catherine Cost Smith. On the 1850 & 1870 Census, shows John & Catherine Smith and beside & nearby on 1870, are living Enoch & Eliz. Coker Smith(my G.G.Grandmother)This is another reason I think Enoch is their son. Appreciate any info on this. Please e-mail direct to: neldathompson@sbcglobal.net Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
