While retrieving an obituary from 1905, I located an article titled "My Last Shots at the Close of the Civil War" written by P. M. Vance of Bibb County, Alabama. It is an interesting and in the end a bit humorous story. If you are a descendant and would like to have let me know. There is also a photograph of Mr. Vance with the article. Melissa - I would be interested in seeing a copy of Mr. Vance's article. I am writing a book about my family's involvement in what my grandmother termed "that recent unpleasantness." It might shed some light on my family's participation in the final days of the war - they surrendered in May of 1865 at Salisbury, NC.
