Israel (not Issac) THOMAS married Mary SCOTT, Dec. 4, 1831 in Bibb Co.AL (Original hand written certificate). Israel was born abt. 1807, most likely in, or near what is now Shelby Co. AL. His parents, yet to be discovered, were probably from GA. His father was born in VA and his mother in GA according to census records. Mary SCOTT was the daughter of William D. and 'Sally' SCOTT. She was born abt. 1812 in NC. There were eight children born in Shelby Co, AL. (William, Daniel, Lewis, Sarah, Barbara, Israel, Greenberry and Elizabeth) The Children migrated to Washington Co. TX, before 1860. Daniel THOMAS is my Grt-Grandfather. At age 54, Israel (Sr) enlisted Mar 24, 1862 in the 28th AL Inf. Btn, Co. H. He was discharged due to disability from wounds, Apr 5, 1863. Israel and Mary THOMAS appear in the 1870 Walker Co. AL US Census, living in 'township 17'. In 1883, Israel (Sr) acquires Homestead of 160.56 Acres in Township 17S, in Walker Co. AL. Israel marries second spouse (Hannah A.) bef. 1880 (Census, Walker Co.).
