Do you know if your Hill had Native American blood? We're told there is Cherokee connection. We're not sure if great-grandfather's name is Richard ("Dick") or James Washington Hill. The story we received was that his dad died when he was young and he and brother were adopted and raised by people with name Gothard, Gethridge, something like that. We know his mother's name was Elizabeth, but no last name. Richard or JW married our great grandmother Mandy Morah Ann Frances ("Fannie") Jones and children were Effie Elizabeth, Parolee, Sam, Benjamin, Lige (for Elijah), Charles Henry, Cary (not in birth order). Richard or JW was allegedly born in 1854 and had a brother, but not positive if brother is older or younger. We did find a JW born 1854 with older brothers Charles and Henry, which might make sense since first son of our great-grandfather Richard or JW was Charles Henry.
