Since his obit was not in today's Birmingham News, I thought I would send the news that he died yesterday, March 13, 2007 at his home in McCalla. Irma J. Roy Death Notices - Birmingham News WALKER, JR. JAMES HARMON, age 76, of McCalla, Alabama, born February 21, 1931 to James Harmon Walker, Sr. and Jane Otis Sharp Walker, passed away on March 13, 2007. Mr. Walker is survived by his sister, Martha Jane Walker Swearengin; niece, Nancy Jane Swearengin Brooks and husband Allen W. Brooks; great-nieces, Jessica Jane Brooks and Juliet Wiles Brooks; niece, Judy Ann Swearengin; niece, Lara Ellen Swearengin Vickery and husband Daniel T. Vickery, Jr.; great-niece, Oona Laurel Vickery; friend and business partner, Frank Watson; and many art students; friends of history, historical preservation, music, theatre, and the people of Alabama. Mr. Walker was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and joined the Boy Scouts at age eleven and was a life long supporter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War; author of many books; and owner of Art Studios. Funeral Services will be held at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home on Friday, March 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with burial in Big Sandy Cemetery in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made in James Walker's memory to the Birmingham Public Library Tutwiler Collection of Southern History and Literature @ Central Library, 2100 Park Place, Birmingham, AL, 35203-2794.
