    1. Re: [ALBIBB] ALBIBB Digest, Vol 2, Issue 2
    2. Hello, As stated in several prior messages; there is no family data relative to any HINTON's nor MONTGOMERY's within the book "At Liberty On Bear Creek" by Charles E. Boyd: there are no pages; there are no paragraphs. In today reading the first portion of this book relative to the founding of Liberty as well as other area Churches I noted that Charles stated he was including the specific names of Founders, Pastors, Elders, Deacons, prominent and long-term members; passers-through etal. would be found in the appendix. I read through the appendix and I quote (albiet the tabs won't hold the words are here and in this order) APPENDIX Marriage Records Marriages With a few exceptions, the marriage records are based on secondary sources which are based on official records. The exceptions are based on Family Bibles, official copies of original records and letters to the writer. Under the H's "HINTON, John & Esther Montgomery 14 Sept. 1823 Tuscaloosa Co. MEMBERSHIP LISTS I. Sardis Baptist Church II. Liberty Baptist Church These lists have been prepared from the conference minutes of the two churches. The minutes do not always note when a member joined the church nor always when a member departed, so a precise record is not possible. In order to provide some chronology, members are listed by earliest mention by decade. In some cases, the member may have joined in the prior decade and in many cases, of course, members extended into the following decade or decades. MEMBERSHIP LIST SARDIS BAPTIST CHURCH (1819-1920) 1819-1829 HINTON, John there is no other occurance of this surname LIBERTY MEMBERSHIP LIST 1835 - 1982 There is no mention of the surnames HINTON nor MONTGOMERY in the membership lists nor the 1835 list of founding members. I find no HINTON's buried in Bibb Co. (1817-1974 survey by Howard F. McCord) pre-1900: only two after: a child 1909-1910 ... a child 1902-1903. In the earlier timeframes a county line was essentially an imaginary line in the dirt or across a lake/pond and it's not unusual on census to find a family enumerated "here" when you know they lived "there". You might wish to pursue the Tuscaloosa Co. site as whatever you may have been lead to believe was mayhaps within the covers of these Bibb Co. books appears to be no more than: one John HINTON married one Esther MONTGOMERY in 1823 TUSCALOOSA Co., Al. (verifiable on CD (Tuscaloosa Co.) with a possible clue to perhaps her parents? that at some point between the years of 1819-1829 one John HINTON attended Sardis Church. Happy New Year to All on the List! ...
