I am Evelyn D Shimek. Evelyn, Oh my goodness, I am so sorry. I'm not sure how I got Ed. My parents best friends were Evelyn and Joe. And Evelyn was a dear dear person. She lived to be about 92. So I love the name Evelyn. You know, if I ever solve this mystery, it will be one of the most rewarding things, because I am close to the grandson of Candace Owens Drouet and her second husband, Amand Drouet, the ne'er do well from France. Was married 3 times. Although I do think that the first wife died of yellow fever in Florida in the early 1880's. But I do think he deserted my great grandmother and he remarried in Oklahoma. Candace always listed herself as a widow in the city directories in Port Arthur, but I think that Mr. Drouet told her he was going to find land in Oklahoma, and he just never came back and he remarried a younger woman there. AT any rate, they (Candace and Amand Drouet) had twin sons Joe and John in 1890 in Tennessee, who were my grandmother's half brothers. They remained very much a part of our family, they were my half great uncles. And one of them, John, he and his wife divorced and their son Raymond came to live with my father and and his family, Julia, daughter of Candace. Raymond was just a little boy when this happened, and his biological mother that was divorced from Uncle John, she was a hard woman, and she never mothered Raymond and he viewed my grandmother as his mother. And Raymond is now 86 and lives in East Texas, and for all the hard times he had as a young boy, he married a wonderful woman, and they live on a lake in East Texas in their retirement. Their son became very successful businessman in Houston, very well to do, and he has been so good to his parents. He has flown them all over the place and treated them so well. Raymond has received from his children and wife the love that his divorced parents never were able to give him. I have a photo of Candace as an older woman, and Raymond her grandson that she never knew because he was born in lets see, 1920, well, he was 4 years old when she died. But her photo looks like Raymond with a wig on. Lots of resemblance. I need to run, keep in touch, as I said, I have high hopes for this mystery I am looking to solve, like buried treasure. And BibbCounty could be the hunting ground. Best regards, Paula P.S. Eveyln, where do you live? Are your ancestors from Bibb County?
