    2. Caroline...I truly wish you could experience a trip to "Twix and Tween" as I knew it in the 1940's. It was the greyhound bus stop, from Montgomery to Tuscaloosa,(and vice-versa) so you tried to avoid those hours! The old man is gone now...that did the cooking of the large pork shoulders or loins or whatever...over the hickory wood all day.The smell was out of this world, coming from the chimney... only a very few automobiles to be seen. The town of Centreville was up on the hill...had not spread out, like today. To get a barbeque sandwich, ...with a large drink then, would fill you up.I remember the big dill pickle that went with it..on the plate! I always asked for an extra pickle! I can just see him, standing over that big grill...with the handheld rag mop...putting the sauce, or whatever the secret was...on the meat as it cooked. When a date took us to eat there...it was a real treat! Their specialty was also " Lemon icebox pie" Sometimes we could afford it! The waitress always went through the back side door to get it, I guess, the kitchen. The big sandwiches were made right there at the grill, while your mouth watered...(Ever heard that?)...a long counter was there...you could stand there and get them made to go, too.(we didn't have phones to call ahead for orders) How about that now...kids would laugh at us, huh? 3. Wonderful memories. There are only a few other places I'll stop for BBQ. One is the Green Top on the Walker-Jefferson line - the "County Line"; another is in Union Springs. Thanks for letting us know what it was like to eat at the original Twix N Tween. 3. Just have to jump in here. My aunt, Hattie Thompson Thompson (Thompson was her maiden name and she married my Uncle, also a Thompson) owned Twix and Tween later and for many years. She may have bought it from the man that you mentioned. We always stopped there when we went to Brent/Centreville/Lawley for a treat....it was a great place and the food/ice cream was the best. My Dad loved the bar-b-que. You brought back memories.
