I descend from Israel (often erroneously transcribed as Isaac) THOMAS (b. abt. 1806/7, place unk.) and Mary SCOTT (b. abt 1812 in NC) 3rd. child and daughter of William and Sally SCOTT of Surry, NC. Israel THOMAS married Mary SCOTT in Bibb County, 8 Dec, 1831. This from the original marriage license. Transcriptions from this record incorrectly interpreted the handwriting and listed his name as "Isaac" THOMAS. Israel & Mary THOMAS, migrated to Shelby Co. AL, had eight children, and then migrated to Washington Co. Texas sometime between 1853 and 1860. I descend from Daniel T. THOMAS, their second son, born abt. 1835 in Shelby Co. AL. No records have been discovered of Israel and Mary SCOTT in Washington, Co. or Evergreen, Lee, Co. TX where the family lived after 1860. Israel THOMAS may not have left Alabama in the move to Texas, or if he did, he returned to AL to join the Confederate forces and fight in the Civil war. He enlisted as a private, Mar.24, 1862 at Shelby Springs, Shelby Co. AL when he was 54 yrs of age. After participating in several battles in which he was wounded, he was discharged due to disability, at Tullahoma, TN, Apr., 5, 1863. There is an 1880, Walker Co. AL census record of Israel THOMAS, head of Household, married to Hannah A. THOMAS, which list Israel's birthplace as AL, and his father birthplace as VA, and his mother birthplae as GA. This has not been verified. Any help in confirming, or providing additional information on the ancestors and descendants of Israel THOMAS and Mary SCOTT would be appreciated.
