    3. These helpful hints about protecting our valuables have been great - thanks, all, and keep 'em coming! Who knows, some thief might want the picture of gt. grandma, not necessarily for the picture but the large gilded frame for sale to antique dealers. And, as in Jacque's case, they wind up not only with a good computer but a family history that they don't want and which is "tossed" or deleted as a result. When we had our alarm system installed some 25 years ago the rep told us that we had already done something that is one of the best deterrents - screws to "lock" the top and bottom window sashes. Of course, this only works for wooden frames. And, we keep a screw key on a table by at least one window in the room (but not close enough to reach in case glass is broken) or in a place that is convenient if we need to unlock the window in case of fire.
