Hello listers and fellow researchers, My two cousins and I have been ready to bang our heads against our brick wall searching for records there in Bibb County. We KNOW, our William POUNDS was there, at least by 1816/1817 or so, as one of his children was born there. In 1836, two of his children marry there. David A GOODWIN m Sarah Elenor POUNDS, and Richard E POUNDS m Temperence GOODWIN. (They later all moved to MS, just prior to 1840.) We have sought "proof" of our William POUNDS owning land, and/or selling his land there, but so far all microfilm searches (ordered from LDS to OK local library) have not panned out at all, no luck. At this point we are wanting to know what other resources there in Bibb County we might search to find him listed (those tax lists sound VERY interesting to us). We know they moved to MS, we know land had to be sold prior to the move, but we cannot find any record of it whatsoever. Thank you so much Ingrid for sharing your information on those tax list books on the list with us. Anyone who would be able to tell us what "other" records were also missed by the LDS and not microfilmed would be greatly appreciated. I think that would definately indicate a trip to Bibb County in the future to search for non-microfilmed records at the courthouse for one of us researching these lines. POUNDS, ROBERTS, and GOODWIN, etc. Again, thanks for the "heads up" Ingrid. J Parker
Hello J, Have you searched the records on the Bibb County Genealogy website? There are several records on there and links to others. Posted are some Bibb County Land Patent Records (or the link) which should be of some help to you Perry Co. also has a website with information and links. Was William Ponds still living to be listed in that 1848 tax list? Stella makes great points about Perry County and the timeline of the establishment of Bibb Co.
