    1. [ALBIBB] Spinks family

    3. Looking through my files, I found some information that may be helpful to Spinks researchers: Enoch and Amy Spinks of Randolph Co., NC. He died in 1772, Amy was living 1779. Deed 17 May 1764 Enock spinks esq. and Amy, his now wife of Orange Co. (later Guilford Co., later Randolph Co., NC) sells 250 a. of land which had formerly granted to Enock sprinks...to John Gardner of Cumberland Co.,NC on Deep River(now Moore Co., NC)..including the plantation and appurtenances whereon John Gardner now doth dwell. signed EnocH Spinks and Amy Spinks 1768 signed petition regarding high fees, taxes and abuses as an inhabitant of Orange co.,NC. 1772 Enoch Spinks had been living in that part of Orange Co. which was used in the formation of Guilford Co., in 1772. 7yrs. later in 1779 the place of his residence was used in the formation of Randolph Co., NC. Amy Spinks paid tax in Randolph Co., 1779. The land never moved, but the county lines changed. 1772 Enoch Spinks abstracted will dated 20 March 1772, proved May ct.,1772: Amy Spinks, wife, negro named Sampson, her horse, saddle, bed, furniture, etc. John spinks, son, land on Deep River, negro named Adam Martha Spinks, daughter, my store-house and conveniences Enoch Spinks, son land on Fork Creek crossing at the old mill. Lewis Spinks, son, plantation and house where I now live, this to remain in our family, and appurtenances thereto, running from the old mill to son Enoch's line and current money levied from my estate. Rawley (Rolly) Spinks son my 70 gallon still and appurtenances thereto. Garrett Spinks, my son, current money levied out of my estate. Sarah Spinks my daughter, bed furniture and 8 pounds levied out of my estate. Executors: Amy Spinks, John Lorrence (Lawrence), John Needham Witnesses: John Lorrence, Wm. Combs Jr., Windsor Pearce. Will Book A 1771-1816, pages 330-331 (microfilm book A); also, will on file Volume 1 page 320 Wills of Guilford Co., NC. At least one son, John born circa 1747, died 1799 Lincoln Co., GA married Sarah Baker moved to GA circa 1794. Settled in Wilkes Co., GA which part later became Lincoln Co. 1796. Will of John Spinks of Lincoln Co., GA dated 8 Nov. 1799 Sary Spinks wfie, all my estate both real and personal during her lifetime. Enoch Spinks my son, feather bed, cow and calf, $40 in cash, to be delivered at the death of my wife, Sarah. John Spinks, son, all my land, it being appraised. He paying 1/5 of value to each of my following named sons, to be delivered at the marriage or death of their mother, Sarah: Baker Spinks, Isaac Spinks, William Spinks, Zachariah Spinks. Sally Spinks, my daughter, feather bed, furniture, cow and calf to be delivered as stated above. Rebecca Graves, my daughter, $30 cash to be delivered as stated above. Nancy Worthy, my daughter, one cow and calf, $30, reducting out of one rifled gun. Exe.: My wife, Sarah Spinks, Moses Mathews and Micajah Hendry. signed, sealed and delivered in presence of: Jesse Mathews and Lydia Hendry sworn 18 Jan. 1800, recorded 22 Jan. 1800. Nancy Worthy was the wife of John G. Worthy, tavern keeper. They went to Mississippi territory in 1807. I hope this information helps someone. I have no connection to the Spinks family. I was only interested as Enoch Spinks of Randolph Co. was a neighbor of my husband's Lawrence, Needham and Bird ancestors of Randolph Co., NC pre 1800. Descendants of these people migrated to present day Bibb Co., AL. It has always amazed me that they moved from Randolph County to vicinity of Randolph, AL. Liz

I don't recall exactly where you live, but if you are "closer" to Birmingham, the Birmingham Public Library has both of these series on microfilm as well. It's where I obtained B.P.'s information. Also remember the CMSR's are just the cards created to refer to another source... so you **typically** are not going to see the actual record but rather a reference to the muster roll the soldier was on, etc. For some records though if they apply **only** to that soldier you might see letters and correspondence and if you are lucky you might get an actual physical description of your soldier (height, weight, eye color, hair color, etc). BTW, I haven't forgotten about B.P., in fact I was able to visit Centreville on Friday and I have about 400 images on JONES', CAMPBELL's, COBB's, PERRY's, etc... problem is I now have to figure out what I have. Pretty much from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with a quick break for lunch) I was pulling ledger size books, identifying what they were and snapping photos of what I needed. 3. As Liz stated, the Ala Dept of Archives and History has many Confederate files on microfilm. In fact, we are told that the ADAH has the best files on Confederate records of any state archives. To see all files available, some with databases available online, go to http://www.archives.state.al.us/referenc/military.html . Two of the many record types available are: Alabama Confederate Service Cards. On-line database, also available on self-service microfilm. This series contains information about individual soldiers from Alabama and was compiled from original sources such as muster rolls, pension files, and records at the National Archives. Service cards typically include the name of the soldier, his home county, his age at the date of his enlistment, the date and place of enlistment, and the company and regiment. Cards may also include a list of the engagements the soldier took part in; whether he was killed, captured, or wounded; and date of parole. The source of information is often cited. Arranged alphabetically by surname. Confederate Pension Files. Available on self-service microfilm. This series consists of applications and supporting documentation submitted by veterans or their widows in order to receive pensions from the state of Alabama. Information includes the veteran's name; often his date of birth; residence at time of enlistment; company; regiment; a synopsis of his military career, including a list of campaigns in which he participated and whether he was killed, captured, or wounded; and his or his widow's financial status at the time of the application. Supporting documentation includes affidavits attesting to the veteran's military service. Arranged alphabetically by surname. Sina follows a naming pattern in the Johnson and Worrell families of Perry County, Alabama where many Ford families also settled. This leads me to believe that Sina Ford was our ancestor. Alfred would have been about 29 at the time of this marriage since I have a birth date of 1787 based on census records. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Bibb county Marriages: Enoch Smith married Mary Bruce June 21, 1844 Enoch Smith married Elizabeth Coker Jan. 18, 1843 E.C. Smith married Tabitha E. Fancher Jan. 4, 1844 1850 Bibb co. census: Enoch Smith age 32 born AL Elizabeth 30 born AL ( I ASSUME this is Elizabeth Coker above?) Thomas age 7 b. AL John 6 b. AL Adam age 3 b. AL Parolee age 1 b. AL next door: John Smith age 58 b. NC Catherine 65 b. NC, etc. 1860 Bibb Co. census: SIX MILE P.O. probably named for Six mile creek. This is in the southeast corner of Bibb Co. very near Chilton Co. line Enoch Smith age 44 born NC Amanda age 13 Calvin age 12 Henry age 10 Wife dead? QUESTION- WHERE are AMANDA and CALVIN in 1850 CENSUS OR IS THIS A DIFFERENT ENOCH SMITH THAN IS ON THE 1850 CENSUS? Possible 2 Enoch Smiths? 1840 Bibb Co. census: Adam Smith - males in his household: 1 age 20-30, and Adam age 70-80 listed next to Adam is Enoch Smith age 20-30 Jacob Smith age 20-30 "Bibb County, Alabama Ancestral Homesteads" has: Enoch Smith residing very near Bibb Mill (near Six mile creek) he is listed with 80.44 acres Section 29, township 23 N. Range 12E dated 9-20-1839 and 40.22 a. dated 11-10-1840 Sec. 29, Tsp. 23N, Range 12E No other Smiths listed, but a William V. Bruce is listed with 4 land records: Sec. 30, Tsp. 23N, R.12#, Sec. 30, Tsp. 23N, R.12E, Sec. 30, Tsp. 23N, R.12E,& Sec. 31, Tsp. 23N, Range 12E. Bibb Mill is located in Section 30, Tsp. 23N. WHEN ONE PLOTS ENOCH'S LAND AND WILLIAM V. BRUCE'S LAND ON A SECTION, TOWNSHIP MAP, YOU SEE THEY WERE NEIGHBORS. This may be a clue that this Enoch Smith was the one who married Mary Bruce in 1844? My husband's Lawrence, Cox, and Smitherman ancestors lived in this area of Bibb Co. I recognize the neighbors of Adam and Enoch Smith of the 1840 census as those who lived in the vicinity of Cox, AL, Randolph, AL, and the Six mile Creek area. So......Possibly, the Enoch on the 1840 census is the same one as is on the 1860 census? Why aren't you interested in that 70-80 yr. old Adam Smith as possible pappy of Enoch and Jacob Smith living next door? Please know Baker County was renamed Chilton County. You need to research your Smith in Bibb, Chilton, and Perry Counties. It appears to me that there were two Enoch Smiths in Bibb County. Possibly, someone else who researches these families can shed some light? 3. Evelyn The site you choose really depends upon you. Ancientfaces mentioned by Hazel is good... also deadfred.com. I guess it depends upon whether you want to retain some control or just get them out there for posterity... ancientfaces and deadfred would definitely get them out there in some format for posterity... and you can put your contact information there as well, etc. Another option would be a picasa photo album online... it would be linked to your google account and you choose to make it public and therefore "searchable" at google. Of course the details you include with the photo will be how others find them. http://picasaweb.google.com There are many other free photo sites... a good many have "limits" for the amount of space... picasa @ google doesn't. Here is a public album I made for a family cemetery in Chilton County: http://picasaweb.google.com/ilovegenealogy/JonesCemeteryChiltonCountyAlabama# Those viewing have the ability to download a photo of the ORIGINAL size and quality as you uploaded. The other thing I like about picasaweb, is that if you already use Picasa software, free from Google, the upload to the web is so easy and you don't have to upload each photo separately, etc. You might need to go in and name/tag the photo for others to find but picasa makes that easy with some facial recognition software... it is kind of interesting to see who all they "match" to each other facially. Whatever you decide, please let us know... I know I have only seen a fraction of all those great photos you have and definitely have the Bibb County Genweb coordinator place a link from the webpage to your photo site. Thanks!
