    2. Hello, My grgrandmother was Lettice Ann (Lettie) Williams, who married Joseph Yerby Willis, in Coosa Co Al in 1842. (Rockford Al seemed to be a popular place to get married, plus Joseph Yerby worked on the river, in three counties) Lettie had a brother named Hillery, and she named a son after him. Her folks were Hugh Williams, and Rachel Post.. (I think these Williams had first come from Ga) Hugh and Rachel also had a daughter named Winifred (Winnie) Williams who married John Wesley Willis in Shelby Co Al in 1852, so sisters married brothers.Joseph Yerby had a granddaughter, who married William Post. This is the only Hillery Williams I have seen in Shelby Co Al. Stella

    3. That's a thought - mileage and time vs. certificate cost. Just depends on how many certificates but looks like you've got it worked out. 3. Yes Ric, and the ladies at the B'ham LDS are really helpful. Now note that it is time consuming to get the reels, search through the pages on the film readers and then move them to the copiers. So just give yourself plenty of time there. Just call them well in advance also and let them know that you are coming from out of town and they normally will make sure that someone is there. They will also save all the copies you want to a disc or a USB memory stick for you. (They will sell you a disc) But yes, you may want to make sure you have the information from the index first, to save yourself some time. Lastly, if you do go to the Health Dept. remember that it is $12 for each search even if they don't find it. You pay first and there is no refund if they do not find the one you are looking for. I believe it does a + or - 5 year search for the dates that you give them. I wish you luck, the Health Dept. way cost me a lot with only few results. Ingrid -------Original Message------- From: Caroline Date: 03/07/09 10:10:07 To: albibb@rootsweb.com Subject: [ALBIBB] Obtaining AL death certificate Ric, unless you need a certified death certificate I suggest you plan time in B'ham at the LDS Family History Center off I-459 (just an hour from Clanton). Look up the information for the individuals on the Alabama Death Index to get the numbers you need for the correct reel of microfilm. This way you can look at the certificate, only pay about 10 cents per copy and you will be sure that you have the correct certificate. Since you have used Suzette Cook in the past you know to use the Alabama Death Index at Ancestry.com or wait until you are at the LDS center in B'ham and use the index there. The Clanton library may have access to Ancestry.com and the Archives in Montgomery does have Ancestry.com. The Archives does not have the reels of death certificates. Death certificates were started about 1908 and are available thru about 1960 on microfilm. During the early years, especially, not everyone had death certificates. If going to the Probate office in Clanton be aware that probate copies are $1.00 per page. The ADAH in Montgomery is now open Tues - Friday 8:30 - 4:30. Due to cutbacks they are closed on Saturday. The LDS center in B'ham is open Wed, 10 a .m. - 7 p.m.; Thursday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sat. 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. but since they depend on volunteers call before you make the trip: 205-967-7279. They can give you directions, corner of Altadena Rd. and Cahaba River Rd. If anyone has further suggestions or corrections please note them to ALBIBB. 1. [ALBIBB] Brown and Kemper Co., MS migration
    2. I am descended from Jesse Anderson Brown and Obedience Leggett who lived around Gary Springs and Enon Baptist Church. Jesse had a brother, Edmond, who lived down near Maplesville, just off Hwy. 82 and the road to Selma. Edmond moved to Kemper county, MS about 1840, along with his son, Dr. Albert Brown, MD and maybe a second son, Henry. Edmond was married to Nancy "Appy" Barfield(?). I have very little information about this family other than Edmond, Nancy, Albert and Henry who were mentioned in the Brown Bible. On an 1846 Tax List in Kemper county were Albert, Edmond, Henry, Irwin, J. W., Mary, Michael, Morgan D., and Oliver Brown. I seem to recall an Oliver Brown in Bibb county, not connected to my line, at least to the best of my knowledge. Would anyone have information on Oliver Brown and whether this could be him? Did anyone else have ancestors to migrate from Bibb to Kemper? John http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~opus/index.htm John K. I might can help you. Lawley, Alabama the only Lenoir that I can think of would be my gggrandmother Martha Ann Lenoir who married John H Hicks. Both are buried at Rehobeth Church Cemetery near Lawley. Don't know about Giles/Hubbard living in Lawley area but another of my ancestral grandparents was Sarah Giles b. ca 1785 [dau. of Thomas & Mary Giles] who married 1st to Davis Hubbard and 2nd to Issac Gentry. Their descendants are scattered in both Bibb and Chilton Counties. On the JONES family it would be Eliah Jones who married Massina Smitherman and had a son D Bailor Jones who married Nancy Ann Smitherman but they are going to be from around the Cox Chapel Community, not Lawley. On the LAWRENCE family would be Edward Lawrence who married first I believe Nancy Pries and 2nd to Sarah Smitherman in Randolph Co., NC. I have some information on their descendants. Let me know if any of these sounds familiar. Sincerely, Margie Smitherman Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. John Brown b. 1818 Mecklenburg Co., NC was the son of ENOCH BROWN and MARTHA "Patsy" WILSON. Martha "Patsy" was the daughter of Revolutionary War soldier JOHN WILSON and wife Elizabeth Smith. There is an estate for John Wilson in the Bibb County Alabama Probate files. From earlier records we know that John Wilson was born 20 December 1760 Mecklenburg County, NC and died 20 January 1838 Bibb Co.
