Samuel Tate with his wife and several children moved to Bibb about 1825. He may have been Presbyterian since he had two cousins who were preachers in the Cumberland Presbyterian church, however I've been unable to find anything about his and his wife's gravesite, or those of his son James Tate and wife Matilda Patton. Hi Caroline, Thanks so much for your suggestion, but it's my great great grandmother that I'm concerned with the burial spot. Actually, I don't really know her name off the top of my head - I would have to search some records to find it - obviously before death records when she died. Sturdivant-Henderson Cemetery is a separate cemetery from the Sturdivant Cemetery located in Bamford (off of Hwy 277 in Helena). Sturdivant-Henderson Cemetery is located on Hwy 13 in Helena (Shelby Co AL) east of Shiloh Church Cemetery on the Cahaba River. This land is owned by US Steel. This cemetery has never been surveyed. This is what I know about the cemetery. There are approximately 24-30 graves in the cemetery and only two are marked. Holly Middleton Henderson Born 30 June 1823 Shelby Co AL, son of Mike and Martha Massey Henderson Died 7 May 1862 of disease in Selma, Dallas Co AL (44th AL Infantry, Co E) Sarah Elizabeth Harmon Henderson Born 30 June 1829, daughter of Allen and Rebecca Lindsey Harmon Died 11 December 1895 Holly Middleton Henderson married Sarah Elizabeth Harmon on 10 August 1848 Shelby Co AL Others believed to be buried in this cemetery: Sarah Gibson and her parents James Harmon Pleasant Henderson (infant son of Holly and Sarah Henderson) John Nichols (who married Lydia Harmon) Mike and Martha Massey Henderson (parents of Holly M. Henderson) John Lindsey (son of David Lindsey) Elizabeth West Lindsey (wife of John Lindsey) Daughter of John and Elizabeth West Lindsey Would you have additional information on who might be buried here? Also, could you email me the picture you have of the Holly M. Henderson's marker and of the graves marked with stones? I will see if I have more information on this cemetery. I also live in Shelby County and will see if I can locate the exact location of the cemetery. Scott Martin ================================================================= This response was the most exciting email I have received in nearly a decade. We (family researchers) have been looking for someone that could state that "Holly Middleton Henderson Born 30 June 1823 Shelby Co AL, son of Mike and Martha Massey Henderson Died 7 May 1862 of disease in Selma, Dallas Co AL (44th AL Infantry, Co E)" is the son of Mike and Martha Massey Henderson. Mike is short for Michael. One other person ( James Ammons) had sent me a letter with a statement that "I believe the father to Hollie Middleton Henderson was a Michael Henderson", but it was in a Not-quite-so-positive statement. James also was the person that took Derrell Judd and his wife Lila to the cemetery site and took pictures of Hollie Middletons Henderson's headstone. Many thanks to everyone working on this project, Gary Henderson Meridian, Idaho
Odd because it is a rather unusual name, but I have a Holly Middleton BROWN (1846-1924) in my line. He was a son of Jesse Anderson Brown who lived northeast of Centreville, on the road to Montevallo. I wonder if there is any connection between the families? John bevel67@aol.com wrote: > Gary, > > I saw your posting on this cemetery. I hope the below information is helpful and readable. For some reason I'm having a problem responding to e-mail. Shelby Co. has a very good web site. Maybe you'll be able to find further information on that web site. There is a Sturdivant Cemetery in Shelby Co., AL, according to HISTORICAL ATLAS OF ALABAMA, volume 2, CEMETERY LOCATIONSW BY COUNTY, Edited by W. Craig Remington, published by the Department of Geography, College of Arts and Sciences, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, 1999. p. 482 - Sturdivant Cemetery - Township 20 South, Range 4 West, Section 27 - The graves of Rev. Wm. H. and Cynthia Sturdivant (d. 1926) . . . along with members of the Harmon, Henderson and Nichols families of the Bamford area. Good luck in your search, Jacque (Bibb County families - DEASON, ELAM, HORTON, BAILEY, REDD, REACH, PARKER, SMITH
I forgot to add the Horace is buried in the Hillcrest Community Cemetery at Mt. Carmel Church, West Blocton, AL. I have been trying to locate the cemetery that my Great-great grandfather is buried in? It has been mentioned to be the Struvadent Cemetery on or near Stein's Bend of the Cahaba River in Bibb or Shelby County Alabama. I have a photograph of the one large headstone (Hollie Middleton Henderson) that is in the cemetery, and there are one, two, or three small stones that have just initials on them. A relative that has visited the cemetery ( a couple of decades ago) indicated that there were also depressions in the ground that would indicate that as many as 20 or more grave sites are there, but are unmarked. I am trying to find a relative or persons that know the GPS locations of that cemetery so it can be listed on an Alabama Cemetery of Cemeteries. I would ask that you look in your book and see if you can find it listed, If not, I'll keep working from afar (Meridian, Idaho) to try and get it found.
