I'm not sure how many people have participated in the project. It is still on-going. I think there are 6 to 8 matches to the DNA submitted by a descendant of Charles REACH of Bibb Co., AL. To my knowledge the results of all DNA's submitted are not posted on a public website like many of the other surname projects. You can do a search for "Rich Family Association" and find some information. I think you'll find an e-mail address for the administrator of the project. He should be able to give you some contact information and information on how to participate in the project. Our REACH family goes back to a Timothy RICH. If you are interested, I do have some family information in my database and will be happy to send you a file. Just send me a private e-mail. John may be the father or grampa of my GGgramma, Susana Rutha SMITH. Rutha was born 30 April 1840 in TN, GA, AL, MS, or TX depending on which census or court filing you are using. She married Elijah Thomas WILSON, born 3 February 1839. She died 6 June 1900 in Beckham County, OK. Elijah is the grandson of John MAHAN and John WILSON in the history listed above. I have not been able to find this history, except on the MAHAN geneaologies on Ancestry.com. Rutha is a ward of the Lavaca County Court of Estates filings. These filings appoint Malona (HALL) and James T WILSON as Rutha's guardians. Malona and James are Elijah's aunt and uncle. Malona's parents Berriman and Margaret HALL are on the 1830 Greene census with two daughters born between 1825 and 1830. One of the daughters is Malona. Malona's sister may have married John SMITH or John SMITH's son, John. I ran across this information while looking for some of my Martins. Thought it might help someone...since I have seen postings on Mitchells. My MIL was a Mitchell, from Sylvania (and Georgia). I think the Bibb folks were probably kin, but I haven't connected to her father, John T Mitchell, son of Benjamin (South Carolina) to them. Stella http://files.usgwarchives.net/al/bibb/vitals/deaths/mitchell50ndt.txt
I'm not related to them, but there is a fairly lodge Mitchell Family which stopped in Clay County, Alabama also. Clay County has a lot of good information on their county web-site. This one only has 306 pages plus the index pages which are not numbered. What I really like about this book is the women are also listed by their maiden names if they are known. Yes, the Brown Cemetery is listed on page 33. If you want a list of the few names and dates e-mail me off list. Hazel
I have decided to browse all of the 1850 census pages for Bibb County AL looking for Zachariah and his wife Sarah. Do you have any family members that should be enumerated on the census but you have not located? I am not asking for requests for people that you have not looked for. Just the ones that you have searched for and cannot find. Beth G., Auburn AL
Does anyone have any information on a Rhoda Cunningham? She is listed as an heir of Zachariah Canterberry. What about the family of Thomas G. Buckingham and wife Rhody Canterberry? They married on 03 Jul 1822 in Bibb County. Are the two Rhoda's the same person? Any information greatly appreciated. Also has anyone located Zachariah and wife Sarah in the 1850 census? Warmest regards, Beth Gay, Auburn AL, Descendant of Samuel Canterberry of Lowndes Co AL

Could some of the markers been put up afterwards? I know my parents and a group of relatives pushed forward with a fundraiser and put up a LOT of markers in Tabernacle and in other places after the McCord books as published. I think it was the motivating factor because they realized how much people might want to know in the future so they "went for it" and succeeded. Thank God and my wonderful, wonderful, family. Also the cemetery that my parents found in the middle of the woods (with help from Lawrence relatives) in a cow pasture near Seagrove, NC was rumored to have been slaves, but because of the markers that were unearthed (fancy) and the names and dates turned out to be the family burial ground of the John B. Lawrence Plantation. It was still owned by Lawrence descendant at that time (back in the 70's and 80's). There might still be black people in that cemetery, but I'm just saying that designations aren't always correct. It is now fenced off thanks to Lawrence descendant Carrol Shelby and his family and it has a LARGE memorial stone. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don Logan" <moodylogan@windstream.net> To: <albibb@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 11, 2009 2:36 AM Subject: Re: [ALBIBB] - BOOKS "Bibb Co., ALCemeteries, Graveyards, and Family Burial ... >I have not looked at McCord book in many years; however, I recall there >were > many, many "unidentified graves" > in just about every cemetary... > Yet, when I discovered my g, g, grandfathers grave, his wife, and his > maternal uncle John Hunt; it was right next to John W Logan, one of his > sons, and behind Douglas Logans group of graves.... > > Seems that he was not very accurate in some cases, at least. all these > were > clearly marked once found. > > Perhaps the new version has corrected some of this. > > don > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <mrmac1000@aol.com> > To: <albibb@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Thursday, July 30, 2009 8:49 AM > Subject: Re: [ALBIBB] - BOOKS "Bibb Co., ALCemeteries, Graveyards, and > Family Burial ... > > >> I am hardly an expert, but I like it. I have not looked at McCord book in many years; however, I recall there were many, many "unidentified graves" in just about every cemetary... Yet, when I discovered my g, g, grandfathers grave, his wife, and his maternal uncle John Hunt; it was right next to John W Logan, one of his sons, and behind Douglas Logans group of graves.... Seems that he was not very accurate in some cases, at least. all these were clearly marked once found. Perhaps the new version has corrected some of this. don ----- Original Message ----- From: <mrmac1000@aol.com> To: <albibb@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 30, 2009 8:49 AM Subject: Re: [ALBIBB] - BOOKS "Bibb Co., ALCemeteries, Graveyards, and Family Burial ... > I am hardly an expert, but I like it. Hi, I know that Jack Moore is a Canterberry descendant. Are there any others who are members of this list? Possibly we could establish a Canterberry mailing group (just informal group for emails) or just communicate via the Bibb county list. I have tried to locate Zachariah Canterberry and his wife Sarah in the 1850 census with no luck. I know that they were still living in 1850 and Zachariah's estate was probated in Bibb County. Does someone have a copy of the 1850 census for Zachariah? I found an item today which was new to me on Ancestry. From "Record of Commissions of Officers in the Tennessee Militia, 1796-1811, compiled by Mrs. John Trotwood Moore, Reprinted from Tennessee Historical Quarterly By The Adjutant General of the State of Tennessee, Issued by the Tennessee Historical Commission as a Sesquicentennial Publication, 1947. p. 38 Campbell County Regiments Commissioned Among those listed are: Canterberry, Zachariah, Captain, October 24, 1807 Cunningham, James, Lieutenant, October 24, 1807 Warmest regards, Beth Gay, Auburn AL
Beth A scan of what you have would be much appreciated. My email address is genealogistinal [at] yahoo.com. I will keep an eye out for any Canterbury's ... I still have a TON (hundreds) of documents/images to go through and categorize/abstract from a trip made to Bibb County last November.
