    3. James Reid- Do a google search for "James Reid"+Bibb County, Alabama. You will get several hits. See one below: Reason Berry Sawyer, born in South Carolina in 1818, married Olive Reid on May 1, 1838 in Bibb Co., Alabama. Olive was born about 1820 in Alabama. Her parents were James Reid, b. Georgia, 1794, d. 1853, Bibb Co., near Old Maplesville, m. 1818 in Georgia to Elizabeth Goodwin Hill, b. 1794, North Carolina, died about 1856. Reason and Olive’s children were Martha J., b. 1839, Daniel H., b. 1841, William E., b. 1843, Waymond Knox Polk, b. 1845, George Washington, b. 1847, John Morgan, b. 1848, Darthula, b. 1850, and Sarah, b. 1854." If I'm not mistaken, these Reids and Hills were originally from Randolph County, NC before going through GA to Bibb and Chilton Cos., AL. 3. Louise, Use http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ to search for land patents for Alabama. Put in Horne and you will see several land patents listed for Hornes in Perry Co. Please know the Bibb Countyline extended several miles into present day Perry County prior to 1850. There probably will be "regular" deeds in the Bibb and Perry Co. deed books as well. 1. Re: [ALBIBB] Hospital where old records can be obtained
    2. There really were poor houses or farms. I'm not sure about Bibb county, but we ran an article on the one in Autauga in the Autauga Ancestry. If they were former Confederate soldiers there was the Old Solders' Home and hospital at Mountain Creek, in Chilton County. You could contact them to see if they have records. BTW, they also have a nice museum on the site. John John K. Brown jkbrown2@knology.net "Honesty is the Best Policy, but Insanity is a Better Defense." Author: WCarah Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.bibb/3830/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for the origins of John T. Harris (b. abt. 1833--TN) who married Theresa Woolley (1839-1912?)in 1859, the daughter of Green Berry Woolley of Perry County, AL. John T. Harris was a civil servant and worked as a tax collector and in the sheriff's office of Perry county in the 1870-80's. I cannot find him or his wife in the 1900 census. In an older posting on the ALBIBB Rootsweb Mailing list, an Irma J. Roy presented the following information: Descendants of John T. Harris By Irma J. Roy September 17, 2002 Generation No. 1 1. John T.2 Harris (Abel K.1) was born Abt. 1835 in Tennessee. He married Theresa Ann Woolley, daughter of Greenberry Woolley and Sarah Owen. She was born 1839 in Alabama. Notes for John T. Children of John Harris and Theresa Woolley are: 2 i. Robert L.3 Harris, born Abt. 1859. 3 ii. Laura A. Harris, born Abt. 1863. 4 iii. William P. Harris, born Abt. 1867. 5 iv. Emma J. Harris, born Abt. 1869. 6 v. John C. Harris, born Abt. 1870. 7 vi. Walter R. Harris, born Abt. 1874. Irma J. Roy ******************************************************* I have not been able to reach Ms. Roy to obtain more details about the information she presented. Some observations about the above data: 1. The Emeline Woolley referred to was a spouse to Abel K. Harris. The implication is that Ms. Roy thought Abel K. Harris may have had an earlier spouse. Emeline Woolley and Abel K. Harris were married in 1834 in Perry Co., AL. 2. The R.S. Harris referred to above was Robert Spring Harris, a son of Abel K. Harris and Emeline Woolley. He was born in 25 Jul 1836 in Bibb County. 3. Abel K. Harris was born in South Carolina in about 1802 and is on record as purchasing land in Perry County, Alabama in 1826. There is no record of him ever living in Tennessee, but that does not mean he was never there. Perhaps he had a wife in Tennessee before he moved to Alabama. He married Emeline Woolley when he was in his 30's, so he certainly could have been married before. Is John T. Harris the son of Abel K. Harris as is postulated? Where in Tennessee did John Harris come from? Any information would be helpful Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
