Lori, I don't have a lookup request, but I had to smile at "Coleanor." When I was a child growing up around the Bessemer, AL area, I always heard it pronounced Coleener (Ko - leener) and I actually did not know the correct spelling until you posted it! Never too old to learn....... Evelyn S. Leslie Remlap, AL
I was just received a gift of of James H. Walker's book "The Struggle and the Joy, An American Coal Town, Piper, Alabama. My paternal families (Champions and Daileys) are from this area and I really enjoyed reading this historical account of this mining community. Many many former Piper and Coleanor families are mentioned by name in this wonderful book, I would be happy to do look ups if anyone is curious if their ancestors are mentioned. Les, I am familiar with FamilyTreeDNA, as know VP Max Blankfeld. It took me a year of old fashioned genealogical research to find a male on my great grandmother's family (Basset) to participate in the Basset/Bassett DNA project. I've emailed the Hicks/Hix project person, but have not had a reply. Thanks. The link is to help you find another Hicks with the same ancestor, although that may be a distant ancestor. I did Y-DNA and mtDNA testing and found a distant Tate ancestor by matching Y-DNA results with two males in TX and some collaborative research to take our lines back another generation to a common ancestor. My mtDNA results established Native American ancestry that had been only oral family history with no details. I've found 8 matches with that but only one has firmly established Indian ancestry; the others having only oral family history.
