The problem I am having with this marriage is this, there is no Pretnel listed in Bibb county and surrounding areas for the years 1850 and 1860. On the net others are readily accepting the date and names for this marriage. I plan to travel to Bibb county and search for the marriage certificate and if found make a copy. With the directions and advice given I feel sure I can satisfy myself as to the names and dates of the marriage. Again thanks for the advice. The office is in Centreville and across the street from the courthouse. Photcopies are $1 there and at most Probate Offices in Ala. When looking for the marriage record also look for wills, estate records and legal documents of corolary relatives, etc. You might call the Probate Office to find out dates for the earliest records. You can also check the Archives web site for the same information as to what is on microfilm and for dates. The Alabama Genealogical Society is in the process of indexing loose papers in all counties and Bibb County microfilm has been indexed. The index is online at the Ala Gen Society web site at http://algensoc.org/main/searchable.html Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You could also order a microfilm at the Family History Center at your local LDS (Mormon) church. I've not been there, but I assume they would have the marriage records at the Bibb Co. This is a different James W. Hill. Ours was born in 1854. It is amazing how you start looking for a relative and find 100 with the same name born in the same decades. I thought I grew up with an unusual maiden name - Hamm and then found out my great grandfather changed it from Ham to Hamm in the early 1900's. Also, looking for my great great grandfather, there are like 50 William Hams, all born in the same decade and all from either South or North Carolina that migrated to Alabama. But we found the right one on that one. James W. (Dick) possibly later Richard married to Frances (Fanny) both born in 1854 is the one so elusive as to who his parents were. I think he was atleast half Native American and in the 1870's -1900's it just wasn't very cool to admit that, as a matter of fact, you hid it if you could. But he had 11 children, with 8 that lived to adulthood, so there has to be someone who knows something about this man. Thanks, Delilah, but that's a different Henderson family, I think. My Hendersons were in Bibb Co., AL during the civil war because I have their history back as far as Lou Quincy Edwards who married Jesse Henderson. I have photos and my grandfather's stories (that I heard about her). So, I'm mor einterested in a family that had a Catharine and a Daniel. I think Peggy Henderson William's book is the accurate one. I need to write down what I know and have documented on Lou Queince and Jesse (Jessie) who married in Sept. 26, but I have to look up the year. I have photos. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Delilah" <diamond6468@mindspring.com> To: <albibb@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 07, 2010 8:15 PM Subject: Re: [ALBIBB] Need Info off page 97 >I have "The Families of Genery's Gap Alabama" by this woman - do you think > it would be in here - an article about Pleasant HENDERSON, b 1756, a Rev > War > Soldier - > if this is the one, I will send the rest > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Evelyn" <edshimek@cox.net> > To: <albibb@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sunday, February 07, 2010 7:51 PM > Subject: [ALBIBB] Need Info off page 97 > > >> >> >> >> >> Pioneers and Residents of West Central Alabama Prior to the Civil >> War >> Author Madge Pettit >> Publisher Heritage Books, 1988 >> >> If anyone has this book I need to know if there is anything on page 97 >> abot Hendersons.
