Stella, I am not Candace. Candace was the name of my great grandmother who was born in Scottsville, Bibb County, and I am trying to find out who her parents were. She was born in 1861. What makes you think you can find out about her? She was an orphan. I talked to the Judge at the Probate Courthouse today in Centreville and he suggested I go to the Mormon library, as they recently completed filming all records in Bibb County. The man I spoke with said that there were not many recorded adoptions in the records. Best regards, Paula Iles Restrepo, Dallas, TX
Stella! So good to see you on the list. Have you been missing or have I just been missing you? Not sure if connected, but I have Obedience Catherine Brown, dau. of Jesse Anderson Brown, Jr., born 28 May 1834 who married William R. OWEN 5 Oct 1853 in Bibb County. He was born 1831 in Alabama and died 1 Mar 1863 at Fredericksburg, VA. I don't have a DOD for Obedience. They lived in the 1860s in the Brierfield area and had: Sylvester A. Owens 1857, Walter Scott Owens, Cordelia Owens 1860, and William "Willis" Parsons Owens. Let's hope this only goes through one time! I find nothing in the 1870 Alabama Census, and to complicate things, I find a Candace Miller living with Thomas and Sarah Clark, middle aged couple in Scottsville, Bibb County, in 1880, and listed as an orphan and the birth year matches up. Yes, hello James. Thank you for replying. However, my name is Paula Restrepo, who is Eveylyn? I do already have that info on Amand Drouet in the 1880 census in Florida and also the 1910 in Oklahoma. We never have found divorce records for him and my great grandmother. Are you by chance related to the Thomas and Sarah Clark that Candace lived with? The Y stands for Yucatan. A middle name that our family knows nothing of the origin. A genealogist here in Dallas thought that someone that might have served in the Mexican American Wars had liked the name. I think they were about 1848, that is 11 years before her birth, and also I am not totally sure where they were fought. Even if I made contact with a descendant of Thomas and Sarah Clark, I doubt that after this long there would be any family knowledge of Candace, and also, it was a Candace Miller, which I of course cannot be sure was my ggr, but it sure seems coincidental, but also poses many other genealogical inconsistencies. Like where'd the name Yucatan Owens come from? On her gravestone it says Candace Y. Drouet. She was still in her late 40's when Amand Drouet left her and she never remarried. Do you live in Bibb County? I'd like to get a copy of the history book about Bibb, out of print. Regards, Paula Iles Restrepo

To our family knowledge my great grandmother Candace Owens Miller Drouet had no siblings. Or if she did they were farmed out for adoption as she was, and why we don't know. 1870 Federal Census James Beat, Bibb County, AL Page No. 5 P.O.: Scottsville Enumerated 26 Aug 1870 I¹m trying to prove or disprove my connection to the CLEMONS families listed on this page. I tried to trace them forward in the census records no luck. My next step was to try to find one of the other families on the page in a later Census usually this works in case the surname spellings was off, or the city/county line changed, etc. In this case, I have not found any of these families. I could use the help of another pair of eyes to make sure I have not missed something. If I haven¹t missed something, more brain power/experience would be appreciated to help me figure out why none of these people can be found. Help. Vanessa
