I was asked to post the following information: "Here is another source available for genealogical help, usually only for cost of copies and mailing. Genealogy LookUp Forum is a web site of volunteers who will do various types of genealogical look ups such as births, census, cemetery, deaths and marriage. We are also looking for new volunteers that have access to records that may help others as well. Please visit the site to locate a volunteer in your area. I am sure you will not be disappointed on how helpful these folks will be with genealogy. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~genealogylookup/index.html " Please consider being a volunteer, also. I often do look-ups at Probate in Autauga County, although the size and weight of the books is getting to be more difficult for me to handle. Caroline Horton, List Administrator

Jacque, Have any of your neighbors been "hit"? Considering where you live, I'm inclined to think someone(s) were watching your house? Don't forget to check the numbers on any unused checks. A friend of ours had a box of checks on the kitchen table. It seemed to be untouched, until bank called about a month later. The thief had taken four check from one of the pads of unused checks. You might contact the 3 major credit bureaus and have a fraud alert put on your credit file. For any new credit, the company/business would have to contact you directly. Be sure to watch your mail. If you don't receive mail you think you should be getting, the thief may have put in a change of address for you. Just so very irritating. Jacque: so sorry about the crime against you in the theft of your belongings! I hope the thief (thieves) can be found and appropriately punished. >From "The Other Evelyn"
Dearest Jacque, I am so very sorry about your losses. Anyone who does this needs to be sent to Borneo or somewhere they cannot do this to anyone else. To the moon maybe? My husband is a coroner for Jefferson County, been in law enforcement in this venue for close to 40 years. Just wanted to tell you to be really careful. They often return for another "hit" on the same house. They try to limit their "time" there. Have a friend who has been hit 3 times now and think it is the same ones. When I leave, padlock my gates, have two big dogs in the house. It is scarey to think you may have come home and caught them in the act. If you leave home and return and things do not look "quite right" call the police/sheriff. They will understand. Better to be safe than sorry. This day and time they place no value on human life, and they do not leave any live witnesses to testify against them. So, if ANYTHING looks suspicious, do NOT go into the house or yard, leave at once and call for someone to check it out for you. J Parker

Jacque's thoughts re DNA testing is right on. I have participated in the DNA project of my MILAM family. Even though I (being a female member) cannot participate by being tested, I can and have helped fund those male Milam members who do qualify. It is exciting and I can't wait to hear the results which should be available by 12/13. Carol

I am very sorry Jacque, I hope you had some material saved some other way. I know you worked hard at genealogy and helped lots of us. It is probably people who sell things...that took it.I hate a thief worse than anything. People too sorry to work for what they have. Stella
Jackie, I am so sorry. Please let us know if it is found. I wonder if offering a reward for it's return would help. Jacque, so very sorry about the computer and other items that were taken. I hope those that did it will be found. And that you had back-up. Was this your laptop? I've been reading about the need to be very cautious during the holidays. Sometimes I leave without turning on the alarm system but in the last few weeks I've made sure to have it on whenever I'm gone. Keep us updated. Caroline
Oh, Jacque....I along with many others feel such empathy for you....I do hope that your genealogy was stored on CDs or something. That would just be divesting for you and for all of us that depend on your help. Hi There Catherine, thanks so much.I had not even thought to go to DNA project since I started my Mitchells. I will do that now. I know John Smith Mitchell had a brother by that name.Doing humpteen families at the same time makes one a little crazy!! (my excuse)...thanks again...Stella
Hi Stella, Have you looked at the Mitchell DNA project page online? If I remember correctly, there is a descendent of Ephraim Mitchell of SC in the project. You should be able to contact him through the project page. He may be able to give you more info on Ephraim's descendents and where John Smith Mitchell connects to that line. You can find the site through Google or through the FamilyTreeDNA website.
