Surnames: Trucks, Trux, Pettibone, Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.bibb/2269.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you so much for replying to my posting. First of all, I have researched my family since 1960 with my aunt, Edith Helmer. She in turn had been working on it since the 30's until her death about 10 yrs. ago. You will see her name frequently in acknowledgments on the Davidson family. Esther Pettibone and George Joseph Trucks were married on 25 Feb 1804 at Kingston, Pennsylvania. I have this from family records and a complete accounting of the settlement of the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania is written up in a book "History of the Certified Township of Kingston, 1769 - 1929" written by William Brewster. He writes about the Pettibone family and descendants and Esther's marriage is noted in the book too. Esther and George had two daughters, Sylvina Trux born 27 Nov 1805 married James Holgate and moved to Stark County, Illinois. They had an extensive family (I have all the names, etc.) Maria Trux was born 11 Sept 1807 in Kingston, married Samuel Clark McClure at the Holgate cabin in Illinois on 4 Feb 1834 and she died 6 Mar 1867 in Eastman, Crawford co. Wisconsin. She is my gr.gr. grandmother - George Joseph and Esther are my gr.gr.gr. grandparents. The family story told for generations says that George Joseph Trux was part of an expedition mapping th! e rivers. The water was low and he and another man went ahead and never came back. it was presumed he was killed by Indians. This is what my family always believed and is what Esther, Maria, and on down the line told. There was never any record of him. I came upon the Pearland data and found George Joseph Trux in Alabama about 4 yrs. ago. Until then we had never heard that story. If you go online to Richland County, Ohio court records thru the US genweb site you will find where James Holgate, his wife Sylvina, and Esther Trucks jointly sued William Trucks, Jr. over the deeding of land from Sr. to Jr. posted under William Trucks name. It is quite interesting. I would love to have a copy of the Will that William Trucks made. I have not been able to find it. Is there a way you could send me a copy? Or tell me how to obtain a copy? Another interesting thing is that when Maria was married, Esther signed a document that she was of legal age. It lists the father as George Joseph Trucks, deceased, and his name is crossed out. I have a copy of it. Esther's name is shown as Marsh. I feel certain that George Joseph Trucks is the same man who married Sarah Johnson in Alabama. There are just too many coincidences - but unless we can find someone who has been doing research on that part of the family who might have some record, it will be very hard to prove. In those days, abandonment by one year left the spouse free to remarry without a divorce action - and I feel sure that this is what happened. Thank you for your response - I look forward to further sharing of information. Jody

Is there a divorce record? Esther born in Amenia, now Dutchess Co. New York ( across the border from Kent, Litchfield Co. Connecticut) Unable to locate their marriage date. William Trucks/Trux Sr. will speaks of George who was thought to have been killed near the Mississippi River. Could this be George Joseph? He was in the war of 1812 and married Sarah Johnson 05Dec.1812 in Madison Co. Ala. and settled in Bibb Co. Ala. Have seen an extensive documentation of the Pettibones and Esther's ancestors. Her father is Oliver, she later remarried to Daniel C. Marsh. Thanks for any assistance with George Joseph. C.Trucks
Besides the 1866 Alabama state census, Alabama also has state censuses (as well as federal) for 1820 and 1850. There is also a state census for 1855 with no corresponding federal census. All of the state censuses are available on microfilm at the Alabama Dept. of Archives and History (ADAH) in the Research Room on the First Floor. This microfilm can also be purchased, so you may want to suggest that your local library get these reels of microfilm from the ADAH. State Censuses available on microfilm at the ADAH Secretary of State State census 1820 Secretary of State State census 1850 Secretary of State State census 1855 Secretary of State State census 1866 For detailed descriptions of those censuses go to the following url for ADAHCAT, the ADAH's online catalog. (You may need to copy and paste the url into the address bar). http://216.226.178.197:81/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local&PAGE=First Then do a Basic Search (the default) using the term secretary of state state census. All of those censuses will appear, along with the corresponding U.S. censuses and other records. For more details, call the ADAH Research Room Reference Desk at 334-353-4648, and ask for Arlanda Perkins. Take care and happy researching during the new year, Mike Mike Breedlove Alternate way to ADAHCAT - Go to the ADAH home page at http://www.archives.state.al.us/index.html, and then click on Search Our Collections - http://www.archives.state.al.us/searchcoll.html , then click on ADAHCAT, the online catalog. ________________________________ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Melissa Hogan Sent: Friday, December 22, 2006 10:02 AM To: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: [autauga] Link to information on how to locate the parents of an ancestor using death and other records Susette Cook has given us all a Christmas gift this year. I am trying to gather any and all information about them, and anyone who is interested in helping please feel free to contact me at [email protected] I am currently gathering the rosters of all the Southern Volunteers who served in the Spanish American War, and as you can imagine it's pretty difficult trying to locate all these men by ones self, so I'm looking for any help that I can get. I'm looking for any artifacts, grave locations, personal documents, etc... regarding the Veterans of 1898' to 1902' from Mississippi, or any other State for that matter. This is part of a larger effort by myself and the members of the Micah John Jenkins Camp No. 164, Sons of Spanish American War Veterans, to try and make sure that the Veterans of the Spanish American War, Philippine Insurrection, and China Relief Expedition, are remembered. If anyone is interested in more information about the S.S.A.W.V. please feel free to visit our website at: http://www.geocities.com/sonsofspanamwar/, for more information about the Lieutenant Richmond P. Hobson Outpost of the Camp which is in Southern Alabama. Thank you all for your time, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Kenneth H. Robison II, Camp President, Micah J. Leaving Centreville, going south on highway 82 ...you will gradually begin to climb...hill, valley......with the next hill higher...this is Sand Mountain...it is not a small mountain...as you top a long hill with a right (slow) lane added, you will see a small dirt road to the right...this goes to Maude Tower(an old fire tower)...highest point on Sand Mountain. Highway 82, then, descends on...toward Randolph,Maplesville, and the communities you mentioned. I was born close to where the highway 83 intersects highway 82. We went to Perry Mountain Fire Tower when I was growing up.But I have heard tales of how my daddy would back up the hill over there instead of going forward.....and how they got stuck in the sand. Evelyn, Don't know the mile markers on 82 or Hurricane Ridge Road. But if you're traveling from Maplesville towards Centerville just before the turn off to Marion (183) there's a dirt road that angles off to the right. On a Map I've seen the road number is 321 it's called the 'Old Selma Road' and the 'Sand Mountain Road'. Just a little way up that road after you pass a road to the left (801) that goes back to 82 is the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Evelyn Sent: Wednesday, December 13, 2006 9:57 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ALBIBB] Trip Home I thought that Sand Mountain was on the right side of Hurricane Ridge Road if you enter it from Mile Marker 97 on Hwy 82. Beverly, As you travel south from Randolph to Maplesville take the first dirt roar on the right. That's the Sand Mountain Road. It takes you over to Hiway 82 near the Marion turn off. It's not a road for the week at heart. I traveled it from the Hiway 82 end (we were visiting the Pleasant Hill Cemetery)to the Randolph end with my Aunt Buna Garner Ward in my mom's Chrysler but should have been in a 4X4. When you're up on top you get a great view of Bibb and Chilton Counties to the East. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Beverly Beasley Sent: Wednesday, December 13, 2006 5:34 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ALBIBB] Trip Home I went looking for Sand Mountain and never could find it.
