    2. Vhuck, list, I will get to it maybe, while I am recuperating from toe surgery I have this morning at 11....This book, however does not go back much, with details on folks, past the founding of this church, Mulberry. About time Alabama territory was named, then of course...made a state. It says on cover, 1818 -1868. then an addition for second printing, in 1995, which I have...See Ya...Stella

    3. Thanks Stella These Williams may be kin somehow, as my Elias M Williams was said to be on the Mulberry committie from Haysop Baptist. I just don't have the time or energy to investigate it. Can anyone tell me where Mulberry church is in relation to Scottsville? 1. Re: [ALBIBB] Williams in Bibb, Chilton Counties, at Mulberry Church.
    2. Chuck, it is not in the community with Scottsville. It is at the Isabella School...between Maplesville and Clanton...but due north...The Bibb County line used to go that far..in sort of a dip from West Blocton down that far...you know...we discussed before, of Cox chapel, and where the Brown Boldings lived, close to Randolph, being Bibb at one time? It was due to the mining at some of those places. I think it was sort of divided due to mining and farming...to keep all counties prosperous....when I can get time I will start with beginning of book with names. A Joseph Williams came in late 1700's with family to this area, and was one of the founders of Mulberry...Leb may have been his son...because it said he was living in home of his father at first.. The people who went there were the people who ended up in Chilton, mostly...but in the early years when there were few churches, fewer roads, fewer little towns, no railroads...everything was settled on creeks, or rivers. At first it was a large county called Cahawba. Gotta run...Stella

    3. The following is from the Jefferson Co., Ala. list: According to the US Geographic Names Information System: Gorgas Post Office (historical) Walker AL Unknown Unknown Unknown - - Gorgas Mine Walker AL 333920N 0871950W Gorgas Populated Place Walker AL 333857N 0871229W Gorgas School (historical) Walker AL 333918N 0871312W Gorgas Power Plant Building Walker AL 333840N 0871155W This is a great website, where you can enter a "feature name" then add the state, county, type of feature, etc. to find out where things are. You don't need to enter all of those, and in fact it is usually better to just put the name and state, then narrow it down if too many places come up. The URL is http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic/f?p=135:1:16169917688153334225 I keep it bookmarked so that I can look up towns, cemeteries, rivers and streams, etc. It has both historical and current place names, and has helped me find towns that no longer exist. As you'll see from the first line of results above, sometimes the system has "unknown" for the latitude and longitude of places that have disappeared, but as here, there is generally some other place name that is similar that will get you close. You can ask it to give alternate names, too, so if a place's name has changed, you can still find it, and know what name replaced it.

The others were all lised as planters.William was a son of James and Mary, originally from Abbeville.(I don't think we can have too many people in a search!) Kay

    1. [ALBIBB] Nichols Plantersville, AL.
    2. Joni
    3. Hi Evelyn Shimek, As far as I know I only had one Nichols family in Plantersville, Dallas Co., AL. although there were many in the area. I have never been able to connect them. I guess the reason is because my Nichols went to Henry Co., AL. before coming to Perry Co. He was William Middleton Nichols. His wife was Lizzie Terry daughter of Daniel and Nancy Friday Terry. William Middleton Nichols parents were John & Elizabeth Tiller Nichols of Henry Co. I believe they came from the Kershaw area of SC to Henry Co. Al. Middleton as he was called was the only one of these Nichols to come to Perry Co. I am not sure why he came to that area but he was prisoned at Rock Island IL during the civil war and died sometime shortly after his release at the end of the war. After his death it appears his widow Betty Terry Nichols and their children moved to Jefferson Co., AL. While there could be a connection with the other Nichols in Perry Co. I believe they came from what was known as the Dutch Fork SC which is now what is called Newberry SC in a large migration of this areas inhabitants. While this Nichols family intermarried frequently with my other lines, I do not know of any other connection and have not researched them extensively. If there are others in the Bibb area I do not know of them. Let me know if this sounds familiar to you. 3. Hey Joni, Easy as pie, thanks! I emailed Rootsweb Help earlier this p.m. but had not heard back from them yet so this email will tell the tale. I don't recognize (from my Mom's notes) the names, but when I was writing things down one day while she was just talking, I have a note that says "Aunt Ida used to talk about places like Plantersville, where is that?" The only thing I know for certain is that our earliest documented Ward was a baby in Tuscaloosa Co. on the 1850 census. Hugh Tinel/Tennel "Dan" Ward was a baby living with his SHELBY (maternal) grandparents on that census. I do appreciate both your help with the name thing and another clue on our WARD family.
